HGV's in lane 2. Grrrr...

This is the problem with 'once Great' Britian today. Noone has time for anyone else, you all expect your goods to be in the shops 24h a day and for them to be cheap - but you don't want lorries on the road - and then you have people thinking the motorways are there for cars? Sure they were originally built to get Britian moving after the war seeing how canal and rail freight is as good as useless these days.
So if you want lorries restricted/banned/whatever why not write to Sainsburys, Asda, Currys, Argos, wherever and tell them that you would be very happy to pay double price for everything to pay nightshift workers. And the NIMBYS that live close to industrial estates / shops filling their trunks because of lorries arriving and clanging about at all hours.
Time to slow down, get Britian working together again - we have one island to share! Sooner people loose the "my journey is more important than yours" attitude to driving and THINK about what other road users are/may do.
Rant over!! Moral of story is leave a bit earlier, calm a bit down, have a bit of consideration for those around you.0 -

Maybe all car drivers should have to spend a day or two driving a loaded lorry. I know my eyes were opened after I hired a large 7.5 tonne box van.
I like to think I am much more considerate to HGV's now.0 -

Or how about when the truck in front is fully laden approaching a steep hill slowing the whole que of traffic behind it down.
Without truck drivers this country would come to a stand still and its about time people started realising this and engaged their brains before posting such stupid things.
Maybe more of your moron brethren should anticipate more and not pull out in front of lane 2 traffic . Works both ways.:D

You know viking, your posts are usually very sensible, and in alignment with my views, but you are so so wrong here :mad:
The typical british motorist is so self centred that they, and you in this instance, fail to realise what roads are.
They are trade routes, for getting goods from A-B, and as a bonus they are there to aid travellers, ie, you and me.
Sorry but far to many selfish posts in this thread, I'm out,:wall::wall::wall::hello::hello::hello:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
But if there was a secondary topic, relating to whether HGV's should be able to enter lane 2 on a dual carriageway, and I'm thining A42, A1 from my own locallity, well, that is a different issue
???;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

And maybe more of your morons brethren, ambling along in lane 2, could ease off a little to let the odd truck out instead of us having to force our way out to keep up momentum. Do you even understand the concept..
Let me try and put things into perspective.
Many of us HGV drivers do a lot of miles, often upwards of 2000/week. Now, we don’t wont, or need, undue stress like car drivers tend to suffer on their often short twice a day journeys. To this aim we would ALL prefer to sit one behind the other on cruise and enjoy the ride. Unfortunately in the real world this is not always possible, sometimes we have to overtake slower moving vehicles, remember momentum ? very important when running heavy. More often we are forced to overtake due to slower cars in lane 1, why should this be ?
You claim lorries take an age to overtake, rare in my experience, certainly no more that a lot of car drivers who don’t know what their right foot is for. And don’t get me started on cars entering a motorway :mad:0 -
Theres a number of things that could/should be done to reduce congestion on motorways.
1. HGVs inside lane only 7am to 7pm. Agree - the number of times an HGV tries to overtake something doing 49mph at 50mph taking 5 minutes to do it......meantime the rest of the motorway funnels into the third lane. Its not fair fellows.
2. Get in lane a mile before an exit. Use wide rumble strips between lane 1 and 2, and anyone holding up traffic in lane 2 cos theyve tried to jump the queue gets their car crushed.
3. Stay in lane after an exit. Again rumble strips for a mile or so, no swerving into lane 2, forcing lane 2 to swerve into lane 3......another cause of holdups.
4. Ban caravans from 7am to 7pm.
5. Anyone driving in lane 3 when lane 2 is clear gets their car crushed. Just cos youre doing 70mph doesnt mean you should be sitting at the front of the traffic.
6. Anyone driving in lane 2 when lane 1 is clear gets their car crushed. This generally applied to old people.
7. Foreign lorries to purchase UK road tax and pay petrol tax on importation of petrol in their huge tanks.illegitimi non carborundum0 -

I can't imagine that any lorries use petrol these days.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
