I would thank you for that, but you've pinched the "thanks" button again.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

This :j Also Martin did say in the last thread that if we continue to use the new format we must expect daily changes. I don't think anything is set in stone until its rolled out for every user in a few weeks. Thanks to the forum team/Martin for taking on our suggestions0 -
awww what interesting tweaking did I miss?0

I really like the new look, find it much easier on the eye, much clearer.
I haven't had time to look through the thread so apologies if some of these things have already been mentioned. Some things I've noticed:
- It would be better if the stats box was smaller. The Facebook & Twitter boxes need to be smaller - one box instead of 2, people who want to link are familar with the symbols anyway. Are our user names carried across to our Facebook/Twitter accounts if we link to threads?
- It would be nice if all the dates & times were lined up vertically. At the minute they are tagged on to the end of user names so could end up anywhere which makes it hard to look up or down a thread to see for example what today's 1st first post was.
- It's good to have the switching box at the bottom left to change back to the old version. Can we have this box on the old version as well so we can switch easily to the new version without having to find this thread first?
- Just noticed a couple of things about replying as I'm typing now: the black 3d effect lines on the top & right of the reply box are a bit too harsh - maybe grey like the other sides would look better?
Edit - this is similar for the quick reply box at the bottom of the thread too - grey lines would be better.
- (Also while replying) I'm using a netbook just now & the stuff at the right of the screen (tips box, news box etc) is obscuring some of the middle items ie I cannot see some of the smilies etc due to the overlap.
- While I like the less cluttered look of the profile pages, I think there is not enough information to justify having to click on different screens to find what you're looking for - might be more confusing for newer users.
- Profile pages - I clicked on the wee icon to minimise the mini stats box & it's disappeared along with the stats & I can't get it back even if I look at someone else's profile. I've broken it(!) & now can't access the link to more stats that I think was at the bottom of that box.
- Profile pages - I can see who I've thanked now - great idea & probably good if I ever get enough time to start entering competitions.
- Not sure if this is to do with the changes but pages 1,2 & 3 of this thread are very large & I have to scroll sideways - possibly something to do with users quoting previous users & the quotes taking up a huge amount of space? Is there a way to limit the size of text boxes used in quotes? Pages 4 & 5 are ok - but maybe more replies will change how page 5 looks?
That was all about Firefox/Explorer. I haven't used it on Opera Mini much yet but the colouring in of quoted text is absolutely brilliant there, as for me, Opera does not show the lines of the text box that usually surrounds the quoted text, so the difference in colours makes it much easier to read. :T
Overall the changes are great so thank you all!0 -
One thing that is starting to annoy me is that the amount of "white space" is a bit overwhelming.
Really really looks too bright if reading for any length of time.
Would it be possible for some parts that are currently white to be tinted?
I've been playing around with some custom settings via Stylish, and have made things a bit easier on the eye for myself.
For example, forcing:.alt1, .alt1Active { background: #FFFFDD !important; color: #000000 border-bottom: 1px solid #AFC1C9; }
Makes a subtle but significant difference for me.
As in:
Rather than:
I'm not sure if those screencaps will show the difference very well for anyone else, or whether the colour will just look awful?
