If i request a PAC code, as a cash/cheque/debit paying customer, and i move my mobile telephone number to another network, and Vodafone send me a final bill for ~£490 including an early termination fee, but i decline to pay it - what next? (my outstanding contracted amount is ~£290)
Do i get the chance to fight/dispute it? Do i automatically get a default on my record? What about a CCJ?
Does anybody actually know what the situation is?0 -
I want to know how they come up with this 'termination fee', they can't just say, yes well your paying £30 a month for another 12 months so 12*30, because your not actually going to be getting a service from them so they cant charge you for 12 months for service even though your not using it can they????0

Chris, I think (someone please confirm!) that if you put the amount in dispute they're not supposed to default BUT this is Vodafone we're talking about and I wouldn't put it past them to do it regardless.0

That seems to be the vibe I'm getting... No idea if it's right though...0 -
I'm quite happy to test the theory as frankly my recent credit history is not perfect, but as my work situation is looking up, i already have a house bought with my brother - so no concerns about being able to get a mortgage at this point in time.
It's odd to have such a significant early termination amount - ultimately unhappy customers would be better off just continuing to pay their monthly fee, but losing their number of course - or at least not being able to take it to a new phone.
None of the timing about 14 or 30days warning, or fears of Vodafone dragging this out so that customers are not entitled to cancel worries me - i'll do it anyway. If in a weeks time somebody from Vodafone was to tell me that i could have cancelled but haven't then i'll make sure and get it in writing or record it, and then let them take me to court.
All i expect from Vodafone is to do what they said, nay promised to do.
To some extent i understand them posturing to stop a mass exodus if they have made a mistake and could be held accountable - but if that is the case then it's on them and somebody hasn't done their job properly.0 -

When you signed up you agreed to pay them for [minimum contract duration] x [monthly fee]. If you leave before the minimum contract duration is up, Vodafone are allowed to charge you for the outstanding charges.
For example if you sign up for 18 months at £30/month but decide to leave after 12 months, the outstanding contract amount will be £180. It is the amount that Vodafone charge you as your 'early termination fee'
It is different in this case as, by introducing disadvantageous changes to our Terms and Conditions, we are entitled to rescind our agreement with Vodafone. Rescinding the agreement means that all parts of the agreement become void and Vodafone have no rights to charge an 'early termination fee'.

So they can tie us up... but we dont' have any rights? Seems to be about right!0
