HTC Desire Vodafone 500mb Fair Usage Policy

I'm desperately trying to find out what's using up my data. From August to March I was using about 127mb then it jumped to 500 now I had warning, up to 950. I've installed Task Killer, but I can't think what apps would be using this amount. I don't watch iplayer, youtube, just check emails, occasionally check Face Book....bewildered!!!!
Does your phone run on Android? If so, have you by any chance downloaded the official Sky Sports News app from the marketplace? It apparently absolutely eats data. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -

Vodafone wont be providing you with a Deadlock letter as the change is due to a Commercial decision and it falls outside of Otelos terms of reference.
In other words, Vodafone are now arguing this document (PDF) - http://www.otelo.org.uk/downloads/Otelo_TOR-20June2006_AB.pdf - says I cannot complain to Otelo and I am assuming they are using clause 11.2(h) to withhold my right to complain.
I've not been on here for a while. This is true, as I'd guess Otelo have their hand firmly in the back pocket of the networks. I made a post last night on Vodafone's forum, which was quickly locked and edited somewhat by Vodafone staff.0 -
Surely *you* are making a commercial decision in return; you can't afford to pay at the new rate, therefore you can terminate your agreement? Pah, why does it never work in reverse for the customer---reech!

I think the Vodafone Representative meant ‘commercial practice’, which is as defined by Law as “any act, omission, course of conduct, representation or commercial communication (including advertising and marketing) by a trader, which is directly connected with the promotion, sale or supply of a product to or from consumers,” where a trader is “any person who in relation to a commercial practice is acting for purposes relating to his business, and anyone acting in the name of or on behalf of a trader".
The Law is there to protect us, as consumers, from the unscrupulous behaviour of traders such as Vodafone.0 -
I finally give in and decided just to move to the 1gb price plan like offererd on the forums.
The woman on the phone told me that there was no plan change on my account as I didnt have a handset that came with 1gb now (I have a desire)
She then said the new plans are not out and if I did move up I would lose my unlimited texts to go to 1gb.
I pointed out the price plan is on the web site and she said well just try and upgrade on the web site. The staff have no idea whats going on which is disgraceful.0 -

When I first tried to go to 1GB, Martin from the VF Web Team initally confirmed by email that it was all done and that all my other allowances remain unchanged, only to tell me the following day that he'd made a mistake and that I'd need to lose all my unlimited calls to landlines - I ended up emailing the CEO and the people from the Director's Office sorted something more acceptable: my original plan was: 18 months, £40, 1200 minutes, "unlimited" (3000) minutes to landlines, "unlimited" (3000) texts and "unlimited" (500MB) internet - new plan is: same contract date and price, 1200 minutes, "unlimited" (3000) texts, 1000 minutes to landlines, 1GB internet and 5MB/day data roaming in Europe.
Other people have also been told that to switch they'd need to lose various bits of their allowances - all this prompted me to post on the VF eForum to query the accuracy of their own statement that we could just swap the unlimited 500MB for the 1GB hard cap without affecting our other allowances - they promptly deleted my thread, so I have reposted it on MSE, still waiting for a reply of course... https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2526069

Big thanks, certainly found out what's been draining my battery.
I guess that's always something lol. Has removing it made any significant impact to your data use at all? Oh and the thanks should go to the person who posted that info on the VF eForum - I'm just passing it along! My phone isn't running Android so...Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0
