    edit: text is here

HI there, Just a quick text to confirm the rough details of the call you just made, basically we ve advised that the unlimited vodafone mobile internet on your phone is exactly that, unlimited, however as advised if the phone were to be used for excessive data usage, downloading films ect, or for anything thats not designed for mobiles, ie not a function the handset and mobile network were designed for . . . then you woudl be contacted and asked to lower your usage or be given the option of paying extra for more data allowance each month. meaning that you shoudl never be afraid of using your phone however checking in every now and then to check your allowance is adviseable so more than anything you know how much data the applications you are using are going through. . . . Hope that helps confirm everything D Tim@voda

Perhaps try getting in touch with the Webteam by posting at the eForum, or using the Contact Us part of the https://www.vodafone.co.uk website

That somebody at retentions is texting you that information and it's very much in contrast with the 'official' statement over at the eForum is reason enough for you to raise the issue with Vodafone.

Done 800mb in last 2 days and have recived my first warning text today.

Vodafone have said that they will monitor usage for a few months and then charge me. If i go well over in one month, do you think there is a chance that they will charge me sooner?

I'm desperately trying to find out what's using up my data. From August to March I was using about 127mb then it jumped to 500 now I had warning, up to 950. I've installed Task Killer, but I can't think what apps would be using this amount. I don't watch iplayer, youtube, just check emails, occasionally check Face Book....bewildered!!!!

Unlikely. Even if they do it'll be a "mistake"

LOL i have to laugh again. I just got another text message about my use - my second so far. So i downloaded the unbilled use data from the My Account section of https://www.vodafone.co.uk

After importing it into Excel, stripping the " Kb" and then totting up my use since May 19th and diving by 1024 it tells me that i've used over 1900mb. Strange because the 3g data counter on my phone says more like ~700mb allowing for me getting the reset date wrong.

If the Vodafone one is the one they are using for texts then after allowing for the use from the last few days it could be that their system texted me at 1gb, and has now done it again at 2gb.

Except of course that my use is just not that high.

What on earth are Vodafone up to?

i think there will be a lot of people with similar symptoms when they all catch hold of the idea that they can get out of their contracts! ;);) :rotfl:

seriously tho.. if you are using an app that checks mail constantly or very regularly - IMAP or Exchange - they will use quite a bit of data. Similarly if you have any facebook widgets or instant message services running these will clock up the bandwidth too. Tho i would not expect such a big jump unless you receive (and download) a lot of email attachments.

    It looks like Vodafone want to keep all of this to phone calls now not email exchanges;
    Good afternoon essex_chris,

To help you further we need to speak to you directly and access your Vodafone account. We're aiming to fix queries for you faster than ever, and so from now on are handling all account specific queries by phone rather than email. We'll be making call-backs between 8am and 9pm. If you're not available at a particular time during these hours, you can specify below.

Please reply to this email with:

    – Your mobile number or account number:
    – Your alternative contact number:
    – Hours you're not available during:

    And for security please include:

    – Full Name:
    – The second and fourth digit of your security code:
    – Address including post code:
    – Date of Birth:

Once we have this information we'll call you as soon as possible. We'll try and call at least three times, but if for any reason we can't get through, we'll drop you an email to let you know we've called. If it's more convenient for you, you can always dial 191 free from your Vodafone mobile, or 08700 700 191 from any other line.

    Kind Regards

    Holly

    eForum Team
    Vodafone UK

I'll be keeping mine to email whereever possible, or at the very least getting things confirmed by email. That's my prerogative
