O2 UK "unlimited" web bolt on limit is 200MB

I've read through the Blackberry bolt on Terms and Cond's for contract/simplicity and there is definately no fair usage policy.
Then they must have removed it when they did the tariff changed in February and added free WI-FI, and looking at the date on the T&C's then they must have. I'm not surprised, its hard to use the amount they gave (and its not like they charge for overage on voice tariffs). due to the BB being awesome at compressing data (without losing quality) it uses tons less than a normal phone.
Is this your first Blackberry? How are you liking it?Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
"unlimited" means limited.
They should be told by Ofcon to quote a figure instead.
Mobile Broadband mostly gives a max usage figure where it use to be u/l in the past.
I have fallen foul of the web daily fair use policy with a text n letter.
Some time before Cust serv said "don't worry about going over, you get a warning before you could get charged over the £1." I heard a figure of 200mb under the persons breath.
I wouldn't trust o2 under p.a.y.g, web daily or bolt on.
I'll stick with o2 home bb wifi for web browsing on pc/phone etc. which is excellent.
I won't even use o2's game service now!0 -

Yeah it's my first Blackberry. I got the 8520 on PAYT and just ordered a simplicity contract. It works out alot cheaper. I havent used it yet though because I'm waiting for my new simcard. I'm not sure if I like it, I've been used to touch screen phones and a good camera with flash which the Blackberry doesnt have. Plus I think they are a bit ugly but I wanted to give it a try to see what the fuss is all aboutA home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -

It's unlimited in that although there is a limit the average customer will not hit then limit so it is effectivly unlimited to them.
Yes it's wrong but the ASA have reviewed it may times and it's always been allowed, so it's unlikely to change.0 -
The conversations in this thread just highlight how difficult it is as a customer to find out what you're actually paying for.
The T&Cs on the O2 website are unclear and inconsistent - and possibly out of date.
Customer services do not know what FUP applies to what.
The FUP just seems to be the go to excuse when you have a problem and they can't be arsed to solve it properly.
My brother has the same phone as me, same usage and the same bolt on and he got a text a while ago saying he'd gone over his limit. He phoned up customer services and after a while they just told him to ignore it because it's unlimited. Then my internet gets blocked for going over the 200MB limit. We'll have to see if my brother gets blocked too at some point.0 -
I have a o2 'unlimited bolt on and in the 2nd month I got a letter saying I had exceeded the unlimited limit. The warned me that if I exceeded again I could be charged. They use this fair use policy but when I called they would not explain how much this is. I agree that the actual maximum should be clearly stated. I have not as yet been charged, but find it very annoying.
I agree it should be limited or they should state the maximum clearly!
Also calling from Europe to UK is a rip off. I always buy a local sim card (try ebay) for the country I go to.0 -

I think if I was in your position I would send a copy of the letter back with a reply asking what the limit is so that in future you know what it is so you don't exceed it.
Ask that if they don't know what it is and the staff don't know what it is how on earth are you supposed to know what it is ????It's not just about the money0 -

Are you on PAYG or a monthly tariff? Be careful if you're on PAYG, if you go over the limit they will probably charge you a hell of a lot.
If you're on a pay monthly tariff, and being threatened with extra charges, then that's impressively inconsistent. From my experience, you would be cut off not charged extra. But I wouldn't put it past them to do something totally random, like come round your house and shoot your dog.
My advice - just ditch O2. If you want internet, go with a company that offers a reasonable amount, i.e. 1GB+ for a reasonable price. O2 offers 200MB a month for £7.50. T-Mobile offers 1GB for £5 (or 3GB for Android phones if you ask nicely).
You're already being ripped off, so unless you're stuck in a contract, there's no sense taking the risk that they might decide to charge you extra, or just cut off your internet until the next bill.0 -
