O2 UK "unlimited" web bolt on limit is 200MB

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share some information I wish I'd known a few months ago before I signed up for the O2 £10 Simplicity tariff with the £7.50 "unlimited" web bolt on.

After a few hours wasted bothering O2 customer services, I was told the fair usage limit is 200MB - £7.50pm for two hundred megabytes, despite it being sold as "unlimited" with no stated limit in the fair usage policy.

I'm now no longer an O2 customer, as they refused point blank to remove the block on my internet (but are still charging me for it, of course).

It seems this may be a good thing though, as most other operators offer more data for less .

I have just ordered an O2 Simplicity for Blackberry. 300 minutes, unlimited texts and blackberry unlimited (data / wifi / email) for £10 per month. Where does it say there is a 200MB limit?

all networks are usually restricted to between 500mb and 2gb a month as fair use, which is around 16-67mb a day which i presume you exceeded.

Iv just signed up for 12months simplicity for my iphone, im gonna have to check that out

Is does not say it anywhere because the original poster is talking out of his rear end.

Sometimes use nearly 1Gb per month on my simplicity, only time I have been charged a penny was if the data was used abroad.

I had a quick look through the Terms & Cond's but couldnt find where it says 'fair usage 200MB' so would like to know where the OP got this information from.

OP say s they called up.

O2 don't specifially publish any numbers I can see unlike the other mobile companies.

Then perhaps the OP meant 2000mb , certainley not 200mb, as 1000s can testify.

1. The O2 Web Bolt On allows you unlimited use (subject to this excessive usage policy) of Telef!nica O2 UK's GPRS/ 3G networks (as applicable to your handset), for personal internet use via your mobile phone. All usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card in, or connected to, any other device including modems;
2. to allow the continuous streaming of any audio / video content, enable Voice over Internet (Voip), P2P or file sharing; or
3. in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other O2 customers.
4. If O2 reasonably suspects you are not acting in accordance with this policy (including where you use an atypical volume of data as compared to normal users of the O2 Web Bolt On, which will normally be less than 200MB of usage within a one month period), O2 reserves the right to impose standard browsing charges (see www.o2.co.uk for details), impose network protection controls which may reduce your speed of transmission, remove the O2 Web Bolt On from your account or disconnect your tariff at any time, having attempted to contact you first.

Thanks for that. Now the question is: Does that only apply on the normal web or the blackberry / iphone data bolt on's too?

It is high time these "unlimited" but "really they are not" scams were outlawed.
