That raised bed looks amazing!
This is probably a bit cheeky, but some of the neighbours plants were growing under our fence. I was going to just trim it back but I decided to try and make a cutting and see if it grew, which it has! Not sure of the plant though, but it is pretty.
Also the wild poppies and bluebells by us are beautiful so been rearranging the bluebells in my garden. Tried that with the poppies sadly though and they died. Surprised me as they are quite hardy plants! I will look for seed heads later in the year though.Achieved last year: New isa savings! - £2000

I've just been planting up my smaller lot of tomato plants from beer cans with top and bottom cut off to 2 litre cut pop and milk bottles. Even though its overcast I've been having great fun potting up with my 18 month who needs her own big tub to dig in (although she does prefer mummy's that are full of plants to pull out lol).
Also put some of my french beans outside in their final big tubs that I was kindly given off someone from freegle. Tubs incidently are partly filled with chicken manure that I was also given.
Oh and I've potted up some bargain plants I picked up from a local plant nuresery yesturday from 25p to £1 each. All are about 6 inch high and just needed more room. These include
x1 Coleus kong mosaic
x1 Delta's sarah bush fuscia
x1 Giant fuscia blacky
x1 Dianthus mystic star
x9 Hyacinth blue
x4 can't remember
Just need to fill up my watering can now. Then off to plant some of the bulbs I set off in a crate into the nice bed my OH edged with old wood we found at the bottom of the garden.0 -
Today my oh has made me a greenhouse with a roll of thick plastic a friend gave us and some wood donated by BIL, it is fantastic, i'm just waiting for the door to go on and voila free greenhouse! Not only that but he is off at the moment to pick up some wooden patio furniture from a fellow freecycler. Free is my favourite word lolSometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)
It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0 -
Yesterday I began digging up a raised flower bed and discovered folded chicken wire. Gave up at dinnertime after finding that the 4 mangled and folded layers were trapped under the wall of the bed. The rest of the bed was hiding 3 - 4 inch chunks of rubble and a few half bricks. Dug out as much as feasible to get to the wire.
Failed to cut through all four layers yesterday so that was first job today. Managed to cut it out low down near the wall. Rest of today spent digging out the rubble and replacing with home made and spent compost and riddling the soil. Considering that dug soil fluffs up to twice its original volume more than half the bed was rubble. No longer half of Optimisticpair

I was on the plantoffers website about a month ago and as I was having a nose around, I noticed that the Cherry Mini Sylvia was showing as being free! So I ordered the following:
1 of Rose Double Fragrant 2 + fert. FREE* [90693a] @ 4.45 each
1 of Cherry Mini Sylvia - 2 trees in 9cm pots [90891] @ 0.00
each
1 of Clematis plants + Clematis DVD guide FREE* [89353] @ 4.45
each
I went back on the next day to double check the fact it was free, as I was going to post it on here, and the price was showing as £22.98 for the 2 trees!
I wasn't sure they'd honour it, but they arrived today in the post. They are healthy enough but are barely about 12" high, so great for free but would've been a bit miffed if I'd paid all that for them.
Think that's my best bargain so far. Mummy to an amazing little girl0 -
Well, in the last week, I've been given two tom plants by an old boy in village
2 x toms and 2 x peppers by OH's Dad
And been Given some pots and wooden crate planter by neighbour over the back.. loving this gardening lark!!
Got 10 runner beans an an Aubergine from farm shop for a whole £1
And spent £2.20 at car boot on some broad beans, 2 varieties of squash (can't remember what one is - lol) and a chilli plant - Happy Bunny!!
Also potted up my left over j parker bulbs into small pots for back up plants to fill spaces and pressies.. Don't know for sure they will work in the small pots, but worth a try
Oh, and last week, took a tray full of plants all grown by me to my friend for her birthday - she was very happy - and I got some pea seeds and wild strawberries from her..0 -
Discovered a patio parasol i had bought a few years ago for £1 when Tesco were selling them off. It fitted through the middle of the patio table fine, but i had got rid of the old and grimy patio parasol base yonks ago so i made a diy version using a morrissons black bucket and some gravel. It works just fine too!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140 -
I got 4 bags of chicken and rabbit muck with loads of straw in it for my compost bins from a friend at work, she thinks I've done her a favour but really she did me one by letting me have it.0

I've just been given a lovely wooden table and bench set from the inlaws, compleat with giant parasol and base. Me and OH enjoyed our tea outside yesturday.
Not quite as exciting but I've also been cutting my latest collection of plastic bottles into plant pots.0 -
I've just nipped out at lunch time to go to the council depot to get some free compost!0
