    I have a fertilizer tip from my grandad, don't know if this has already been posted or if its the right thread! Apologies if not x

    He made his own liquid fertilizer with fresh horse manure. Simply put the fresh droppings in a carrier bag, puncture some holes in the carrier and hang from a pole in your water butt making sure it is sbmerged.

    Went to the local skip today, (sorry, civic amenity site :rotfl:) to dump another load of stuff from the back garden and we found an abandoned a slightly sorry for itself azalea. Been tidied up and potted, hoping it'll start looking happier soon. :)

    I got a pallet from work to make into a compost bin!

    We retrieved a number of palletts from the nearby industrial park. OH has now made me 2 raised beds for herbs/veg.

    Now just need to find some free topsoil/compost to fill them!

    I rescued 2 x B & Q plants.

    Golden Thyme = 50p and 70% dead

    Lavender = 10p and 95% dead.

    I've potted them up in some new compost and give them a bit of food and water, hopefully they can be loved back to life.

    As I'm new to gardening and having quite a lot of money on shrubs and perennials for our new garden, rather than purchase expensive gardening books, I have made an excel spreadsheet, with links to websites with information about care and pruning.

    I have listed each plant down the left side of the page and have the following columns to remind me what to do and when and I can filter on each column by month etc etc

    Plant name/ Height x Width /Flowering Time/ Feeding/ Soil Type/Sun/Shade Pruning Time /Notes on Pruning /Website Link to Caring for the plant

    I'm finding it a very easy guide to caring for my new babies, I just hope they will thrive now !!

    I have done a similar thing. I have borrowed gardening books from the library and made an excel workbook with the info I need. I have been able to sort out container gardening, herb schedule, veg shedule, even list the different seeds I have available. I also have monthly tags where I list what I have sown, planted and harvested, so that it is a diary to give me more of an idea next year.

    Wow, you're both so organised! I'm nowhere near that organised, thought I was doing well marking on the back of the plant label the date things are planted/sown... :o
