I gave all my vegetable plants but especially my peppers and chillis a good feed of my stinging nettle plant food. All you need to do is get a bucket, fill it with stinging nettles, put a brick on top to way them down and the fill the bucket with water. Leave for 2 weeks then you can use it :) just make sure you dilute it well, it smells pretty strong too so you might want to keep it away from the house :) free plant food :T
  • Went to the recycling centre to drop off a few bags of rubbish and were lucky to find another "meat pies" tray which slots perfectly into the plastic greenhouse and an [STRIKE]old [/STRIKE] vintage rattan chair for the "patio".

I do love giving things a second life.

Went to the garden centre, didn't spend anything.

But I did return with a bin bag full of free pots (there's a bin outside where you can leave them for recycling, or help yourself) for the school gardening club. :)

Went to Sainsburys cafe for a cuppa (v MSE coz Mum paid) and noticed a sign up that they were giving away their coffee grounds for composting-came out with a huge bag full (very heavy). Not sure if this is in all branches or just my local? (Barnstaple)

Been up since six, sowing some bargain lettuce leaves.

I have found a guy who sells garden stuff at the local Sunday Car Boot sale.

He has several boxes of packets of seeds for 50p each. Suttons, Mr Fothergills etc all dated 2011,2012,2013............ very hard not to grab handfuls of packets.

Will be drawn back on the next weekly visit not doubt :o

We've recently moved house and before we left the old place I dug up our Hydrangea that's been with us everywhere and it's doing really well in it's new home. I also split a load of grasses whilst still at our old place, plus dug up my bamboo (it's massive) as well as a few other things. All in all it's saved me a bit of money as I've simply transplanted from our old place to our new one. I've needed a few new things, but ordered most of it on-line in bulk to save money. I ordered 4 trees on line and they're doing great. I used to be one of those people who couldn't walk around a garden centre without buying something, but now I try to spend wisely, allowing things to grow first to see if there are any gaps. I still have some things from my old place in reserve if I have a gap!

    Garden Sculpture with a purpose!

I've just hung CD's off my ash tree, although I rather suspect the neighbours cats will think it's another toy for them to play with. :(

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Hi everyone,

I have just planted up some runner beans using compost from the wormery.

I am making some raised beds for my allotment from old scaffold boards that I picked up for 6 each (enough for two sides).

I can't afford topsoil as the scaffold boards cost enough, so I have decided to use the lasagne or layered gardening concept to fill them, using old cardboard/newspaper, some compost from the composter, old grass mowings from freecycle, a bit of free manure, shredded paper cadged from the office, all topped off with a value bag of compost.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
