today i put some curly kale seeds that i brought for 28p in 2 of the tubs strawberry's come in0

Used toilet roll inners to sow mange tout and some more peas.
I've also split up some penstimons, so instead of 1 shrub this summer i will have 3 or4.
Ha another use for lo roll inners! I remember my grandma used to plant al her peas/beans and sweet peas in these, they looked awfully odd on the mantelpiece!
In the winter I fold them lengthways ways and stuff inside a kitchen roll inner to make fire-lighters!0 -
I'm rescuing bricks for making a new path edging and clumps of paeony roses which I'll distribute round friends. No longer half of Optimisticpair

I just got a gardening kit from Thomson & Morgan which contains a little gardening bag to carry tools etc round the garden, a hand rake, 2 trowels, a mini mister bottle, a pair of secataurs and another tool to cut flowers. Plus 5 free packets of seeds: Marigolds, Sweet Williams, Cornflowers, Cosmos & Foxgloves - all for £4.45 p&p. I'm really pleased0

bought a pot of sweetpea seedlings for £1.20 and some slug pellets for £1.99. I hope the swetpeas will give me lots of blooms all summer and fill the house with perfume."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

I dug up a couple of Rowan tree seedlings that had sprouted under the parent tree in the field/park near me. They are only about 9 inches high but hopefully they will thrive. Then God looked over all he had made, and said, "I can see idiots from my house".

I now save my milk bottles/jugs/whatever you call them, slice off the bottom half to plant things in and use the top half to snip plant labels, because they are a)cheap and b) BIG. I can write plant names in BIG letters so I can read them without too much peering.
AND I have discovered that the bottom half (of a 2L 'bottle') holds 6 toilet roll tubes and contents neatly upright and easy to water.
AND, when cutting the said 2L container in half round its middle, that if you make one of the narrower sides an inch or so higher than the other three sides, then you can nail/screw it to a suitable vertical surface and voila, wall planters. I intend to screw lots to the sides of my shed and have walls of lettuce and other salady things. Or imagine a wall covered in cascading lobelia. Or anything else that takes your fancy.
Have to be a conscientious waterer though!0 -
