The title of your thread is incorrect:
Brother thinks he's getting a raw deal with rent - What do you charge your children?
The definition of children (plural of child) is "A person between birth and puberty. A person who has not attained maturity or the age of legal majority."
Now it could possibly be argued that, based on his appalling behaviour towards your parents) your brother hasn't yet attained maturity.
However, he is a grown man and if he were my son (not child), he'd be out of my house immediately if he'd treated me in the way you've described.
If he were my son, he would be struggling to keep his £22K job because I sure as hell wouldn't be driving him to and from work until he started to appreciate just how much is being done for him.
The only way to teach this excuse for a man the REAL cost of living is to kick him out, let him rent a flat and struggle to pay his bills, realise that clean clothes don't just appear in his wardrobe and food just doesn't buy & cook itself and appear on the table.
What an ungrateful, selfish, nasty little oik he sounds.0 -
spoilt brat! parents need to stand up to him now and i'm amazed that with his attitude there hasn't already been a breaking point.
most people in that position would at least know they had a good deal and be grateful!!:happyhear0 -
any updates, on Babyboy?0

I'm sorry but i'd be telling your brother that he could fudge right off with that kind of attitude. Get your parents to tell your brother to go find his own place for £50 a week with a live in housekeeper!!!0
-
Tell him he can pay all the bills, food etc for the household and Mum and Dad will give him £50 each contribution.
Seriously, I would give him his marching orders. Especially with the violence that has taken place. If he caused any more trouble I would call the police to deal with it and get him out.0 -
If he behaved like that round my mum, he'd have what happened to my little sister when she attempted the same; kicked out on his !!!!. No one should behave like that towards their parents, it's not on!
On the same note, my parents charge £200 without food, £260 with. And that's including all bills/internet/washing/cooking if required. Your brother's getting a good deal.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.

Get him out! What sort of selfish son does that to their parents!? Awful. Your parents need to wake up and boot him up the behind, I would say £50pw is way too low. I would be ashamed of myself if I tried to get away with the same from my parents.0

With the violence I wouldnt have him in the house for a Grand a week.
Nor would I!!! And I'd have rang the police about him damaging my home too!! Cheeky git!!!
He needs a place of his own and sharpish!!!
My Goodness... what would have happened if it had been your mum he had caused damage to rather than stuff in the house?
Can you honestly say that could never happen?
It doesn't bear thinking about!!!
And on that wage I'd be wanting at least double what he is paying!
I gave my mother £35 a week out of my £74 a week when I had DS1 and we lived at home.. and I bought everything for DS1.. clothes, food ... everything. I also paid 1/3rd of all the bills!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Oh for goodness sake! Why is the OP asking the question? If the parents are prepared to put up with it then let them. It sounds like they've bought it on themselves !!!!!footing round him all his life. He's been tought that behaviour and they seem to be doing nothing about it.
Theres one answer. Get rid. Spoilt brat. Harsh, but fair.
