What you have written is very good and true, the only problem there me old mucker, is that not everyone thinks the same and even less do it properly.I don't think dogs are an intrinsic danger to children; dogs that are confused by lack of consistency, or as to the 'pack' hierarchy in the family and that get jealous or play with children unsupervised can be a danger to children until the child is old enough to understand how to treat the dog or if the dog has been taught how to behave with the child.
Coffee tables are passive hurting objects, if a child kicks a coffee table in frustration, it will hurt his foot and good so too, but a dog can be active hurting objects, kick it and it can do more than hurt the childs foot.Yes, dogs are a risk factor - but so are having square or rectangular coffee tables, or a pond even with a net. I never had a problem with the dogs, but I do have a scar on my head where I fell and cracked my head when I was about 5 and was running in the lounge.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

yes, but to call it a 'pointless risk' is inaccurate it's not pointless, but as with any lesson, it has to be handled appropriately.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0
