Anyone Child Free By Choice?

Sorry you've picked me up completely wrong.
I am actually pro choice not pro life. I was merely responding to Cerdiwen's point that why not terminate an accidental pregnancy. I was saying that some people might not believe in abortion. Of course I respect other people's choices. I just felt that ceridwen wasn't.
You 'responsibility' comment was a bit off then, makes it seems as though women who get abortions are irresponsible, that doesn't sound very pro choice!0 -

Why am I the one starting an abortion debate? It was ceridwen who posted that there shouldn't be a problem with terminating accidental pregnancies (not that she believe they exist). I was merely pointing out that SOME people may have good reasons not to abort. As I say, I am pro choice and have no reason to start a debate on it.0 -

My God. I just said that SOME people mught feel a sense of responsibilty that if they got pregant they should carry the pregancy through. I believe another poster has already said that this is what happened to her. I really don't think I need to be jumped on for querying ceridwen's post which implied it would be an easy choice to terminate an accidental pregnancy.0 -

Ok, fair enough. Thanks for clarifying.0 -

No probs. I honestly don't have an axe to grind here. I was just challenging a statement I thought was very flawed.0 -

I think they are mainly due to human error rather than actual contraception failure. If you take your pill at wildly different times every day or just miss one then you reduce its effectiveness. If you have the injection and are a couple of weeks late getting the next one you reduce the effectiveness. If a condom breaks and you don't get the morning after pill as soon as possible you're at risk.
I do however know someone very responsible and sensible who got pregnant accidentally, she due any day now and I completely believe it was an accident.
Is it me or are the two statements I high-lighted in your post above slightly incongruous?
Youre sceptical about accidental pregnancies because you can avoid them but its quite possible to have an accidental pregnancy if its someone you know who you deem to be responsible and sensible?0 -

I should have put that I used to be sceptical until it happened to this friend!
I still think a lot of them are human error, but I suppose if a contraceptive is 99% effective then the 1% for whom it isn't is actually a lot of women!0 -
i'm cfbc.
i can see the appeal of having kids for the super-rich. by which i mean those who have enough wealth to pay for the best nannies, tutors, travel around the world, homes for all the kids etc. but i don't really see the point in making yourself poor by reproducing which is effectively what many people do. and then their offspring do the same.
that probably sounds very coldhearted but i'm sure many parents secretly (and some not so secretly) resent the lifestyle sacrifices they make.
I don't think that's true at all. I have 3 children, by choice. Those who are child free seem to think having lies in, take aways and going to fabulous places for holidays is far more exciting that having children. I always get the impression that they feel sorry for me because I no longer do these things, or don't do them as much.
However, I think my life is richer in so many ways. Children are constantly growing and changing. With each step in their life there are different challenges to get through. For me, this makes my life far more interesting and exciting than going on yet another holiday.
And when I get the chance of a lie in, it means much more to me that if I could have two every weekend.
I have done the holidays, done the nights out just because I could, been to the cinema etc. For me, this all became a bit tedious. Too much of a good thing perhaps? Too samey.
So in answer to your statement, I think there are very few parents who resent the lifestyle they gave up because the one you get in return is far more interesting.

I've noticed on this particular section of the board that there's a lot of focus on kids - trying to have one, losing one, having them as babies, toddlers, teenagers., etc., etc. With the greatest of respect, I also notice that there's not a lot mentioned about people who are child free by choice and in a relationship or married or not, whatever.
So I'm thinking that there's got to be some other people on here who are child free by choice?
I'd be interested to see if I'm the only one.
Anybody?
