Charged a total of £94 by Natwest for going overdrawn, as follows:
First month: £28
Second month: £28 (they did not inform me until second month)
Charge for sending back Standing Order: £38
Total £94.
I phoned, and they offered half back straight away. I did not accept this, and wrote, and got all charges back.
Thank you Martin!
I think the whole site is brilliant - keep it coming.0 -

You will win, but beware that Nationwide are closing accounts once they've paid up. I guess they don't want to have to deal with stroppy customers! Use the Bank Action Group forum at this link: http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk
I am to claim bank charges from Nationwide from my single account. Will they close the joint account I hold with my wife even if she isn't claiming bank charges back?0 -

12/2005
Bank: Abbey National
Amount Reclaimed: £284.00
Amount they paid: £284.00
The story: I wrote only the first letter saying that I would take them to court and they paid up with out any further a do.
12/2006
Bank: Alliance & Leicester
Amount Reclaimed:591.84
Amount they paid:591.84
The story: I sent the first two letters and got the usual fob off letters back saying that they were in their right to charge me and they deemed it fair. I then entered into an online claim and within 7 days I got a letter form their solicitors stating that although they deemed that they were right and that I was saying that they shouldn't charge me anything(which is untrue!!) they felt that to enter into the court process would actually cost them more. They did mention that they would be contacting me in the future with respect to how I wish to run my account, but I took the recommendation to open another current account so they can say what they like and I'll just move it then. Many thanks to all concerned for the valuable advice and templates.

"Any comments to my last post, would be most appriciated.
I know it's a bit long, I'd make you a cup of tea if it would help.
Cheers"
Hi,
A very similar thing happened to me, was in credit with HSBC, changed address, 6 months later went to pay some money into the account, but was told that my account had been closed and I owed £107 in charges.
It turned out that for whatever reason my address with the bank never got changed and that during the month prior to my c.o.a, I went overdrawn by about £6, so every month after I was charged for being overdrawn (on an account that was not supposed to be able to go o.d.)
Booked an appointment to speak with the bank manager (was hoping for a little flex - like say 50% reduction) as the situation was the result of an obvious mistake. Anyway, the branch manager was so unforgiving and non-negotiable, quoted t&c's ect ect.
I refused to pay, a mixture of stubbornness and being young and naive (and stupid) Was hit with a ccj/default applied to my score. This caused numerous issues and delayed my ability to get on the property ladder, which one could argue that knowing what we know about the property market has cost me thousands.
Also, even after all the hassle and stress this £107 has cost me they still had the nerve to sell the debt to a company which phones me on a regular basis to insist I pay.
Anyway to finally get to the point, In my opinion, and its only an opinion, I do not think that you could win a case for reimbursement for the overpayment on a car, anymore than I think that I could win money for my potential loss on the housing market. I am not a lawyer, but I have never heard of anyone winning a case like this.
That being said, I am looking into what I can do about the debt company that keep calling me over charges, which I now know to have been placed onto my account unfairly and illegally. (if only we had the benefit of hindsight)
I am now in the black and have a great credit score. If I knew how much trouble the £107 debt would have caused me I would have simply swallowed my pride and paid them.
If anyone has any advise on this, it would be greatly appreciated as the charges are obviously over 6 years.
Thanks in advance

Currently hold 2 accounts with RBS a Royalties Account and have mortgage with One Account who are RBS too of course. It is the Royalties that I have had excessive charges from and would like to make a claim, but does anyone here think they will have a right to close my mortgage account if I did? Many thanks for your time in reading my post.0

Your mortgage is a different agreement and shouldn't be affected.0

Bank: NatWest
Amount Claimed: £162
Amount Received: £162
First letter back from NatWest stated charges must stand - my reply to that was referred to a special complaints department, which promptly wrote back to offer £162 (not an admission of liability however! ) and a gentle reminder that if I asked for money back again they'd '...reconsider the flexible banking services they currently offer'.
Thanks Martin!0
