So I received the standard "looking into it".

The original letter said "within 14 days". 14 days would be the 17th of dec but the letter says will contact me by 19th december. Should I send my second letter on the 17 or wait until the 19th?

    Thanks

  • Hi
Has anyone claimed against the Alliance & Leicester. I have a current a/c with the A & L but with none overdraft facility. I have just checked my a/c and as there is no overdraft I am very careful. Unfortunately just been charged £25.00 for 1 day. A & L used to charge on the second day but not anymore. I was adamant I hadn't gone o/drawn but was told that a cheque had come in and I had withdrew cash the day before. It is so maddening £25.00 for 1 day. I asked her for a list of 6years charges the call centre was saying I had agreed these conditions they can charge this it took me three times asking for the 6 years charges list for £10.00 eventually she agreed. She told me they had refunded as a gesture of goodwill charges earlier in the year, but this is because they paid two direct debits out when they shouldn't have. The other was I had to argue that they had charged me on the same day money was in.

I do have two accounts with them and wondered what figure when the list comes back is it worth claiming for, and do they automatically close my accounts. Curious what I have been charged over 6 years. The only thing this time the cheque was £89.00 and it sent me in overdrawn of £23.95 but they charged me £25.00.

Has anyone won against the Alliance & Leicester and looking on the sites this seems to be the best accounts available. Any advice please

HI after reading advise on this site i hunted down all my old statments which we kept from 2000 . after about two days sorting i was shocked to find that the halifax has charged us get ready for this £12408.00 from the year 2000 some of the charges were £39.00 for a direct debit of £2.50 not going out. I intend to take it all the way gote nothing to lose.
  • Halifax - Wrote on 30th November giving them 14 days to reply in full to all bank charges, have received letter dated 6th December stating that it has been passed to their Customer Relations Department, have just telephoned and they have said they have 8 weeks to look into this and i will not hear befor the 8th January are they correct in what they say if not what can i do?
  • I know this is only a small success but it is after all my money

    Bank: Alliance and Leicester
    Amount Reclaimed: £37
    Amount they paid: £37

The story: I made an error when internet banking transferring money before it had properly cleared - thus I was overdrawn over my limit. This was my fault but called the bank minutes after my error. They corrected the error but it could not be done that night, hence over my limit for one banking day.

The answer: A standard MSE letter (thanks Martin) stating what I had done reulted in a re-crediting of my charges as a 'goodwill' gesture.

The moral: A couple of phonecalls and a letter IMMEDIATELY after the 'offence' achieved the aim. Not sure if this is typical of A&L but so far they seem entirely content for me to use their free overdraft facility.
Still looking :search: for the next saving!

    Thanks MSE!
  • Bank: First Direct.
    Money Claimed :£2035
    Money Refunded : £2035

I actually claimed the Statutory interest too but was only interested in getting the full amount of the charges so when they responded by agreeing with the exception of the interest I bit their hands off for it.
I know you don't like first direct Martin but I have to say that they never charged me for the statements on three accounts and the whole thing was resolved (with the help of your letter templates) within a month! One of their call centre operatives acutally urged me to do it during a customer satisfaction call. Fantastic. Cheers MSE.
