Reclaimed Bank Charges SUCCESS stories

Hi everyone.
I was charged £55 by firstdirect for going overdrawn on two separate occasions, each of about £20. I rang them up and asked for a refund. As goodwill they offered £20 off. Then I wrote them using the template and they offered a a full refund i.e. the rest of the balance, £35.
Yippee!! :beer:0 -

Bank: HSBC
Fees claimed: £340
Total received: £450
I put in a claim for charges of £220 originally. A £150 charge appeared the following day, so upped my claim to £340 thereafter.
Mr M Bowden at HSBC was unresponsive throughout. He did send me some E-messages in reply to my follow-up emails, justifying the charges but failing to respond to the specific complaints in my letter. I responded by sending the letter as an attachment to three HSBC staff complaining of Mr Bowden's inability to address complaints. I forwarded the LBA to Mr Phil Beaumont instead.
Started the online claim and Mr Beaumont wrote to me around the same time offering a part settlement. I held out, added court fees and 8% statutory interest, and came away with £450 total.
Now taking on Barclays, Mint, HSBC credit card and Lloyds TSB for a number of small sums (£60 - £350).
Be bold, the court forms are easy and the banks are just waiting for you to show you are serious before they refund.0 -

went in to branch to ask about refunding the illegal overdraft charges, clerk said they aint illegal and he wouldnt, i asked to talk to bank manager, he came out, and i spoke to him in his office. i asked him if he would refund the illegal overdraft charges - he said no. he siad i had a goodwill in the past andhe was not willing to.
i gave him a letter of complaint - 2 weeks later, got a phonecall, offered me £110 max - then £145 max, then £200 max, so i said, the only way i will let it go is £220 - won

Hi, I am in process of claiming from Halifax. I have now recieved a letter from court saying they are going to defend the claim. Does anyone know what happens now or how long it will be before I get my refund? How do I stop the charges that are in process now? Thank you.0

HSBC
Amount Claimed £165.00
Amount Paid £165.00
Alliance & Leicester
Amount Claimed £65.00
Amount Paid £65.00
HSBC paid up in full immediately they received the letter that I sent, which i printed from Martins Money Tips. The Alliance & Leicester took a bit more of a fight but I won in the end. You really have to make them believe that you are prepared to go to court, they will soon back down, Alliance & Leicester did.0 -
I received £50 back from A+L from my first request, a standing order I'd forgotten about put me £2.96 over my overdraft limit. I wrote to them explaining in their terms and conditions it says there is a £20 buffer zone where no charges are incurred, I had assumed that meant over the limit not £20 into the overdraft since their is currently no charge whatsoever for going into the overdraft (until the 0% offer ends) I should have thought about it more and read it properly but since I had otherwise been a good customer would they be willing to refund it this once as a goodwill gesture. Absolute BS about misunderstanding the terms and conditions but it worked so if you go just over maybe worth trying
Hmmm... I've done a similar thing with my Natwest credit card and been charged £20 (May, it has gone down to £12 now) should I have the balls to send a refund request considering I work for them???If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
If you do like it please hit the thanks button.0 -
Bank: Alliance and Leicester
Amount Reclaimed:£380.80
Amount they paid:£480.80
The story:
I used the standard template letter linked from this site and got a letter back from A+L saying the OFT was only dealing with credit cards, not current accounts. I issued a claim for the money owed (claiming money, interest and legal costs (do state you want to claim legal costs or the bank isn't obliged to pay them)) and A+L came back saying it would defend the claim. A week later they decided not to, and I got a cheque in the post. Then a letter followed saying something like.... 'since you don't agree with the operation of your account, we shall be contacting you shortly to discuss its future operation'. I'm still waiting, and if I'm called I'll ask A+L to explain why it simply didn't justify the charges as I asked it to do. If it could justify, then there'd be no way for me to claim back the charges, I presume. See how they get on with that argument.
My advice, go after them - there's plenty of other banks on the high street if they've got sour grapes.0
