  • Bank: Natwest
    Amount reclaimed: 1245.00
    Amount refunded: 900.00

It took only one letter asking for the charges back and 2 weeks for Natwest to reply. Offered me 900.00 which i have accepted as my overdraft with them is also 900.00. This means I can clear my overdraft, close my account and walk away. Never want to bank with Natwest again. I'm happy.

Finally facing up to it
    Joint debt approx 46,000

The point I was making earlier is that all the banks are acting unlawfully, they all make these unlawful charges. I think the rule of law should apply, I don't think banks should be above the law. Individuals can claim back the money stolen from them, if they are savvy enough, but all bank customers are being told to accept UNLAWFUL terms and conditions. There isn't anywhere else for people to go and a bank account is an essential of life these days. Surely when a group as powerful as the banks are acting, in concert, unlawfully, to the detriment of millions of people it is encumbent on the government to take action. I cannot think of another case where any group in society is showing such flagrant and deliberate contempt for the law.

    Thanks
  • Bank HSBC
    Amount claimed £1500
    Amount paid £1327

The HSBC took roughly 3 months to supply statements, waived the £10 fee for doing so.

From 3 weeks of sending preliminary letter they offered her a settlement of £1327. She decided to accept although it was less than she claimed.

With the help of this site the whole process was made very easy. Am now spreading the word to as many people as I can.

    Many thanks
  • Cooperative Bank Claimed just over £700, received amount claimed, after only one letter although did have to wait 8 weeks (got 3 letters each saying "will look into it & get back to you soon"). But then have been with them for 10 years ...

MBNA Claimed £250 received amount claimed. Received letter offering 1/2 amount claimed as settlement, but paid up in full after I sent 2nd letter.

You cannot ask for the normal interest on an overdraft. The bank offered you overdraft facilities at xx%. You accepted by using the facility.

If you had any charges (usually in the £25-35 range) for exceeding your overdraft limit, you might be able to claim them back.
  • Took on the Halifax 4 weeks ago for £660 repayment of charges.
First reply "the charges stay but heres £150 goodwill jesture" told them what they could do with that. Second letter sent was the Excell template for charges with 8% interest added, their reply was to say "sorry you dont like the charges but they stay".
Friday 3rd August filled in the on-line court proceding from the moneyclaim section.
Monday 6th August Halifax acknowledge claim.
Tuesday 7th £1074.41 repaid to my account.
    Charges, interest and court fees.

All of you out there who think the banks dont pay back the charges wake up and follow the steps mentioned on this web site. As soon as you get legal on their !!!!!! THEY PAY. I got a letter on the 8th from the Halifax "saying on a purely commercial basis" they will pay up as defending the claim will cost them too much. :j

Bank: Ulster Bank (in N. Ireland - in the mainland UK they are NatWest)
    Amount Reclaimed: £30
    Amount they paid: £30
The story: I accidently went overdrawn on an old current account still open after I switched to Alliance and Leicester last October (on MSE advice!). There was still an old annual standing order open on that account which I had forgotten to close, and it took money in July. I still had some money in the account though so I only went overdrawn by £1.05! I have had this account for 9 years and have never gone overdrawn and yet they were going to charge me £30 for being £1.05 short!
I simply went to the customer services desk at my branch, explaining that I thought I had asked for this standing order to be closed during the switching process and they automatically offered me a refund - I didn't even have to ask, although the woman didn't look very happy! I then got the standing order cancelled so it won't happen again!

Ive just had £600 paid back to me from HSBC. They did owe me £730, but i accepted their offer of £600 as i have been overdrawn a lot. Last year i was paying between £25 - £75 every single month!
It only took them around 2 weeks after i requested the repayment, to the money being in my account!
Im so pleased i found this website, i am telling everyone i know to do the same now.
Thankyou so much for such a helpful site, this money couldnt have come at a better time.
    Thanks!!! :)

BAnk: The Royal Bank of Scotland
    Amount Claimed: under £700
Amount Refunded: just over £800 (including refund of £80 charge to use Moneyclaim online)

Hi, it took me a few months and was a bit stressful towards the end but worth persevering in the long run. If you don't want the stress I suggest sending them a list of all your charges and accepting the small offer they try to palm you off with first. I held out and started the court action but I must confess this was a bit stressful. They sent the cheque about 10 days after I started the online procedure.
Good luck - Go for it and don't forget to use the consumeractiongroup.co.uk website who were BRILLIANT!
