Bank: First Direct
Amount Claimed: £1027
Amount Paid: £952
Didn't pay difference of £75, as I had accidentally included a charge of £75 that they had already refunded.
No problem at all - did letter with list of charges, sent off, recieved a reply yesterday, about 2 weeks after letter sent. Amount refunded directly into my bank. No threats to close account, or similar. I am recommending it to all my friends.0 -
Sent in my request earlier this week and how is this for a coincidence? My mate in the local pub is the one dealing with my request.
(By the way I live in Halifax and bank with the Halifax).0 -

Bank: Barclays
Amount Claimed: 100
Amount Refunded: 100
This is not really a refund of charges, but a compensation claim by me due to appalling service.
I moved to my current address 5 years ago and informed the bank of my change of address. They sent me statements to my new address soon after I moved. Unbeknown to me, they also kept my old address on their system as a correspondence address until recently. This only came to light when I needed a new telephone banking passcode.
After many months and many attempts at ordering a code (they never turned up at my current address) it came to light that my old address was still on the system.
I wrote a strongly worded letter pointing out that a letter from a bank such as Barclays was all that was needed to start off identity theft. I threatened to leave the bank, write to the Guardian Money page and report them to the financial ombudsman if they did not pay me £100 compensation. They just paid up! Extra holiday spending money for me this weekend!
Always complain!! I will from now on! :-)0 -
Bank: HSBC
Amt Claimed: £1361.00
Amt paid: £1225.00
I actually claimed this money on behalf of my husband. We wrote one letter to his local branch which they rejected- this took 1 week. They referred us to their Customer Complaints department. We wrote to them immediately and 6 days after posting the letter we received a letter offering £1225.00. I know we could have held out for the full amt but really we were just thrilled with that much. We just couldn't believe how easy it was. Especially after the lady in his local branch tried to put us off even trying to claim.0 -
