My bank charges are usually ..
Debit transaction volume rate Total
88 50p 44
handling charge 6.00 6.00
Total charges 50.00
Total Debit Intrest due 43.75
I have usually had these I think once a quarter.
I have no record of thses .(I might be able to find a few old letters)
Or try to retrieve them off the internet banking page at Yorkshie bank.
Do these look like the type of charges that can be claimed against?Do I need proof of charges?
Yorkshie bank have also just changed my account with me asking for it,could this be a reason why.0 -
BANK -Nationwide
Claimed- £1071
Received - £1071
My sister tipped me off to this site as I was trying to help a young friend who had got into overdraft difficulties of about £850. On examining her statements it became obvious that this was entirely due to bankcharges of the above amount. I therefore got her to follow the process described so well on this site. The initial letter was sent late July and an expected rejection of her request to refund charges was duly received about 3 weeks later. She therefore (with my assistance) used the online moneyclaim system to issue a claim on 22nd August. Nationwide duly responded that they would contest the claim. About a week later, she received a phone call from their Lending Control Section telling her that she had to take immediate action to repay her overdraft or they would take legal action. Luckily I was with her at the time and told them that they should check with their legal section as she was claiming the recovery of bank charges which would more than cover the overdaft. The response to this was "The Nationwide never refunds charges" . So I said "Well, we'll see you in court". Today 4th September, guess what! A letter from the Nationwide saying that they will be refunding the charges claimed. VICTORY. Thanks again to Martin and his site. Hopefully others will have the same result.0 -

Hi All,
Ok....I'll keep it short
I WON
I looked back at my charges with HSBC online and it came to £1,097....But some of the charges were already refunded and it was not easy to sort out which were repayed......Anyways.....
Sent the letter for the £1,097 to be refunded on Aug 17th and no response. This was to Head Office in Canada Square.
So Mon 4th Sept. I send the original letter and the Letter Before Action to Head Office again advising that in 14 days we're going to court
Came home last night and there was a letter from HSBC on me door step.....here we go i thought....well....I was socked to say the least...It was from the Leeds office saying they have reviewed my account and its actually £840 and if I reply in 10 days accepting it it will be in my account within 7 days after that....:)
So...I will reply back advising that I accept the £840 and until its in my account I will continue with the LBA / 14 days.
In true money saving style I've bought a paper log maker and will use this money to install a wood burner into me little pad ad i have oil fired heating and oil aint cheap....the rest left over will pay off me over draft
So thank you to this site for the forums / letters and the confidence to do this as its shocking how easy it is with the correct method.
Many Thanks
Paul

Bank: Nationwide B.S.
Amount Reclaimed: Originally £270 something, which grew during the period of correspondence.
Amount they paid: £380.50
The story: Short and Sweet - I wrote, reclaiming unfair charges. They said No. We became penpals for almost a year. They still said No. I contacted the Financial Ombudsman. They've now agreed to pay total sum of unfair charges taken - although they still maintain the charges were fair. Well, they would, wouldn't they?0 -
Natwest - Reclaimed £56 in unauthorised borrowing, got it all back.
I was charged £28 for going over my overdraft limit by £2. Because they took the £28 out a month later, without any warning, I subsequently went over my limit again as I was not ready for another £28 to go out. Therefore they charged me again!!
I printed out the letter available through the links from here, adjusting for my details and had a very quick response stating that "while we do not agree with your views we will refund the £56 as a gesture of goodwill"0 -
