Strange, not one of the success stories has made mention of having their debt default entries removed from the register !!! Has the certainly deserved refund of their money made them forget about this part?
It does not necessarily follow that removal of the charges means that there have not been one or more defaults. In fact the existence of a charge is evidence of dedault. Complete removsl of a charge is an administrative matter and in fact anyone who gets 100% refund id getting more than they deserve, as there are costs in managing such accounts, that exceeed those of well conducted ones.

Amount claimed from First Direct for my husband. Just over £2,000.

First Direct offered £1,750 plus waiving £130 of fees for last month. I took it as it was less aggro than pursuing it further and we got the money immediately.

I had to fill in the court papers stuff with my bank. First Direct just paid up straight away.:rotfl: :j :j :T :rotfl:

Are you going to inform the bank of their mistake? You could end up having to pay that back to them at a later date.

no im not, it is the soclistors fault that they sent me two lots of money not mine, and when the cheque cleared they would of said something then but they havent. but natwest are still trying to get money fromme and my wages get paid in to that account to pay off the overdraft and they havent given me a cash card to withdraw the money.

I like honest people like you.

I'm certain Natwest (as well as all the other banks) read this forum. They can probably work out who you are.
  • I hope the banks are reading this. They have been ripping us off for years when we make/made mistakes. Now they have made a mistake rach4tom should take full advantage.
    LBM 12.09.12 - £53K in debt.
    DFD - 11.07.2019 (OMG).
New DFD is 28.10.2018 due to paying the absolute maximum.

Thanks to everyone on the DMP forum, and to SC for helping me out of this huge hole.

but it was your fault not the banks that you had bank charges levied. So are you saying that as it was your fault you shouldn't have got any money back.
  • Just had a letter back from natwest offering full re-embursement, £179, after sending second letter, they said it was a gesture of goodwill.I thanked them for the offer and said that i would accept after they removed any default entries from the register. My branch manager phoned me within an hour to tell me that the bank had not put any default entries to my name, and any bank or company that does has to write to you to let you know (is this true?) i said that i would check out my credit record and get back to her!!!
  • Bank: First Direct
    Amount claimed: £360
    Amount refunded: £360

Followed all the guidelines, asked bank for last six years' statements (took a bit of chasing though), worked out 'unfair' bank charges (about an hour), sent a letter to FD, and hey presto, a cheque for £360 arrived in the post. Seems like easy money, especially when the bank charges (and frustration/pain) are long forgotten about over the years. Now considering tackling Alliance & Leicester although transferring from A&L to another bank account before pursuing it.
