Just had cheque for £130 from A&L.
Already had £100 previously as 'Gesture of Goodwill' so £230 altogether including court fee.
Sent two letters before £100 gesture then followed up with MCOL and received an 'Intention to Defend'. Began to get a little nervous then after about a week and a half received cheque for remaining £130.
Said they will be contacting me to discuss the 'future operation of my account' since I obviously don't accept their Terms and conditions but that's fine as I have already opened a new one!!
First letter sent 3rd October and second cheque received 4th December.
Keep going it doesn't half feel good in the end!!

Hi all,
This site has been an inspriation! :A Thanks Martin & gang
I am chasing down First Direct as we speak,,,just wanted to know if I could get my 'excessive' charges back from the Student Loans Co ???- I think they are attached to the Government - now that would be interesting!

Just to let everyone know the system really works! HSBC had charged me £700 for going over my overdraft over the last 18 months and Yorkshire Bank charged me £215 for being £30 over my overdraft for the first time in 13 years! I sent the first letter to both banks. HSBC offered me £650 within 2 weeks and Yorkshire Bank £182 within 3 days! the money was in my account before I received the letter. So I would advise anyone to go ahead and get your money back!:j0

Hi,
I have written to Halifax and Barclays about my charges using the first template letter. I noticed that the second letter threatening court action requires you to insert the name of a court. What do you write in there? Do you have to put the local county court? Or just put 'small claims court'? PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks.0 -
ive sent a letter to barclays claiming £945 back over the last 3 years of having an account with them.
surprisingly i was only charged £5 for all my statements and they arrived within 6 days!
i used http://www.govanlc.com/bankcharges.html for the letter templates. in the first letter it says that if the money isnt in my account within 7 days of recieving it i'll start court proceedings.
does anyone in the know think this will work? i work free-lance and work has dried up as usual in the run up to xmas so could really do with the extra money!
any advise? thanks....
oh forgot to say that when they took the £5 out of my account for the statements i went £3 over drawn. yep you guessed it - £25 charge!!!!!!!0 -
Hi all,
Have been watching the board for ages and have finally taken the plunge to reclaim my charges from First Direct.
Set up Alliance & Leicester account 2 weeks ago (Thanks Martin!:money: )in anticipation of FD telling me to 'go away' and sent my letter to them yesterday requesting list of last 6 years charges.
One problem - in my eagerness to get the letter off I forgot to put my cheque in the envelope for £10.
Does anyone think I should still send it or should I keep quiet and see if they request it??
Thanks!

Bank: Nationwide Building Society
Amount Reclaimed:£150
Amount they paid: £213.43
The story: Had Nationwide regular saver account to which I'd pay from my current account also with Nationwide. On 4 occasions there wasn't the funds from one account to pay the other, so I was charged £30 each time for not paying myself! Wrote to Nationwide who refused refund. Completed online small claims to which Nationwide said they'd defend. Three days later the funds were back in my account PLUS interest & cancellation of a pending charge! Also a refund of £58 for a joint account I'd forgotten about! Surprised how easy it was. :beer:0 -

Either put your local court or omit this line.0
