I've written to
Halifax - Claiming £245
Lloyds - Claiming £744
Halifax have written back (within the 14days) saying that they are unable to refund as the charges haven't been applied incorrectly (even though that is not what I said as I used Martin's letter).
I am considering writing back to emphasise the extortionate nature of the charges but can't remember the legal term that relates to a charge becoming a penalty.
What do you advice? How should I handle this, I am also concerned as this is a small bank branch, they probably have more time on their hands, but not too much of a worry here as I'm confident that Halifax's charges of £30 and £39 are really extreme.
any thoughts?0 -
Just follow the next step in Martins article. You need to send the next letter now saying you will issue a court claim if the matter isn't settled. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Bank: NatWest
Amount Reclaimed: £161
Amount they paid: £161
The story:
They'd sent a reply to my prelim letter saying they were not going to pay me, but then sent a cheque after I sent the 'Letter before Action'0 -
Recently I was made unemployed and thus my bank account got empty pretty quick, I then received a letter from Lloyds TSB saying that they couldn't pay a DD on my account as it would send it £55 over my agreed limit.
A few days later I Received another letter saying that I would be Charged for having a DD returned and going £2 over my limit, this took my account to £56 over my agreed limit. More than if they had paid the DD.

Yes you can although if its only a small amount, it may be worth a phonecall first. They may settle quickly. If they don't, start the process as set out in Martins article. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Quick question regarding one of the templates in the article. This is the printable template under "What if I don't have details?"
It states within the template a request for "bank charges" and if not then "6 years worth of statements". I'm about to start this process of and due to other bank related subjects i'm tackling "6 years of statements" would be extremely helpful. So my query is, am I entitled to modify the request to ask for both? I'm just unsure on exactly how I should structure it, seeing as the 6 years of statements is offered as a backup should they not bother with working out the exact charges for you. Any suggestions on how I'd should approach asking for both, or should I simply ask for the 6 years of statements knowing(?) that by asking for both they'll simply send the latter leaving me to find the charges myself?
