Bank: Barclays
Amount claimed: £5500
Amount settled: £3700
Hi. Started this way back in Febuary.
Finally got a court date scheduled for 21st June. Was all up for it,
but it clashed with Glastonbury, which i managed to get tickets for, and
i was truly skint! I wrote to barclays saying that i will accept £3700 instead of the full amount. The letter got lost. Wrote again, phoned, phoned again, finally got through to legal in canary warf. The offer came through the very next day. BE PERSISTANT. Get through to the right people, and they can get you your money.
PS. While i was going through the process i raked up £375 worth of fees which i am about to start the whole sorry process again for!!
Good Luck!0 -
Bank: First Direct
Amount claimed: £2000
Amount offered: £1550
Their response, making a partial offer, was received within a week of writing. I am still deciding whether to accept this or to plough on for the full amount - so far this has been extremely easy! Given the news this week that a judge has overturned one such case I am concerned the tide on these reclaims may now turn so I am tempted to settle.
Thank you for such excellent and practical advice! :T0 -
Amount Claimed: £1310 plus interest
Amout Settled: £1430
Took the full 40 days to send statements, but they returned £10 fee. Not that I could use it, as it was a postal order!
Sent 1st letter. Received reply after 6 days saying they would get back to me within 10 days. True to their word they did offering me £1430. I sent the reply slip the same day and my money was in my account within 2 days!
Thanks to Martin and everyone who has posted on here for encouraging me to do this. This money will make a big difference to me!0 -

Bank - Nationwide
Amount Reclaimed - £177.54 (inc Interest)
Amount Paid - £207.54 (inc mycol charge)
We followed your instructions to the letter and kept a tight rein on timescales. They did submit an acknowledgement of service and the 28 day allowance was due up on 23 May. Yesterday a credit of £45.54 appeared in the account which is the interest we claimed + mycol cost. Today the charges themselves have appeared as a "correction" credit.
You're a star, Martin. Keep up the good work.0 -

Bank: First Direct
Claim: £107.10
Offered: £105
Got charged £105 plus £2.10 in interest when I went overdrawn £300 by accident. Thought I had a bigger overdraft then I did. Rang First Direct up but they said as a rule they recharge fees. So sent a letter saying repay default charges using the template and two weeks later recieved a letter saying there looking into it and will recieve another letter with the outcome in 14 days. Thought they were just stalling for time so sent the second letter not recieved a satisfactory response but, the day after I sent that letter recieved another from first direct and I sent my letter 2nd class saying there willing to pay £105 back but not the £2.10 they charged me. For going £105 overdrawn I think I'll live with a £2.10 charge. Thank You MoneySavingExpert.com0
