I got a letter from HSBC saying they would look into my claim. That was a couple of weeks ago. Should I send another letter to them? I'm not very clued up with this stuff. Thanks.

When you send letters to them you need to set a deadline.
I look forward to a reply within XX days
If they have not sent anything by this date you need to proceed to the next phase.
For further information, you need to either start your own thread or look at other forums for people in the same position you are at.
  • Hi,

Just posting to say had money back from GE Money on a House of Fraser Card account.. Wouldn't dream of taking an account now but in my younger, wilder, stupid days... Requested charges back in March, received details totalling £366 last week. I did not believe this figure to be accurate but wrote back respectfully requesting the outstanding balance to be reduced by this amount :)

Today received a letter stating usual T+C mumbo jumbo BUT gesture of goodwill credit for £366 will appear on my next statement!! YEEHA

Already had £125 back from Ikano for a closed Allders account , and am awaiting HSBC to register a defence to my MCOL claim for £2200. Dont be put off, both of the credit accounts above have been very reasonable without any argument but I'm expecting a rougher ride with HSBC.

Also awaiting a response from Capital One for charges to be refunded. Then, when time allows I want a crack at the student loans company.

Thanks to all on the site, moderators etc etc and other posters to give me the confidence to proceed with these.

    Bank: Woolwich
    Amount claimed: £470 + £90 interest
    Amount Paid: £470

I followed the guidance on the main site. After I recieved the requested bank charge information I sent the first letter and the Woolwich replied saying they'd look into it and let me know in a month. After 14 days I sent the second letter threatening court action if they didn't reply in 14 days and gave them the option of paying £420 as a full and final settlement. After 14 more days there was no response to my second letter but as the date given by the Woolwich for a reply to my first letter was only a day after this I decided to wait and see if they'd reply. Post came today and bought me my response from the Woolwich - an offer of £470 in full and final settlement as a gesture of goodwill with no admission of liability. Result!
  • Halifax - claimed £1223.82
    Amount Received £1223.82

Almost at the end of their 28 day deadline as they had acknowledged the claim with the courts.

    Thank you Martin xxxxxxxxxx
  • Bank: Halifax
    Amount Reclaimed: £1989.25p
    Amount they paid: £1989.25p
The story: Halifax have just written to me telling me they are prepared to settle for the full amount!

So a big thanks to Martin and everyone on the forums for the advice, and support! I couldn't have done it without you!!

Best wishes and good luck to everyone else!
  • Bank: Royal Bank of Scotland
    Amount claimed: £6,000 + £3,000 interest.
    Amount settled: £8,055.00

We sent for the 6 years statements in February and received these within the week. We calculated charges and interest using Martin's tool and 4 days ago, received an offer. We went to the bank today to get our cash.

Following a redundancy, compounded by weeks when the bank took £150 - £200 a day for a week and then treated the subsequent larger overdraft as unauthourised borrowing, bounced DDs, charging us more etc etc, I feel proud to have struck such a blow. I would do it for 1p!

A colleague has recently received over £7,000 from the Hlifax.

Thank you so much, Martin. Ireally appreciate your help. We feel that things have finally taken an upturn. And thanks to others who inspire everyone to keep trying.
