  • Sent my first letter on March 19th 2007 requesting statements. Totalled up £2250 including interest and was offered £2011 on May 9th 2007. Iam accepting this as my charges actually added up to £1800 so iam not going to quibble too much over the interest. I got this from First Direct , i left them 18 months ago because of their poor attitude so am more than chuffed. Cheers Martin for making it so easy.

  • Hi all,
Started my claim early November 2006 against barclays for charges applied to my business acc over the past 6 years for apx £1600 plus interest, went through the usual 2 letters, money claim online, referred to my local county court etc etc.
On the second week in May 2007, one week before the prelim hearing I recieved an offer from Barclays for apx £2400 which included 8% interest and court fees etc.
The offer was accepted, but, i would liked to have dragged it along a bit and made them grovel, cos, they have given me an unpleasent experience in business banking and alot of sleepless nights.
Thanks to all who gave advice and good luck to anybody persuing a claim.

Sent the first letter asking for the money. Received a reply in about 10 days saying they believe the charges are fair but will back date my charges from £20 to £12 and refund me £8 per charge.

    Bank: Abbey
    Amount claimed £709
    Amount they have paid £847.32

Abbey have dragged this out every way they can. I started this process in December 2006 and had to put up with lots of silly letters from them telling me that I hadn't told them my account number or that I hadn't told them the amount etc. They then made a couple of low offers which I refused. The court date was set for June 1st.

I actually asked for £663 plus £46 interest which was a total of £709.
The letter received this morning tells me that they will be paying the charges of £709, together with £46 interest that I claimed. They have also added a further £12.32 interest for the period between my letter in February and yesterday and they have paid the court fees. Hence £847.32.

It amused me that the end of the letter reads "will be paid in to your account (if open)".

    Many thanks

    Wotty

I 'd been advising my daughter to reclaim her charges for months and said I would do all the letters, spreadsheets etc.

She went into the bank about something else just before Christmas 06 and decided to ask for her statements going back 4 years- the length of time she had the account. She filled in the forms and the cashier accepted them. When the 6 weeks was up and still no statements I wrote to Natwest who repied that there was no signature on the form and so we had to apply again. As if.. This was a load of hooey and just part of their time delay tactics. Eventually we claimed £814, including interest. We knew there was another charge still to come on the account of £30 but just thought we'd claim that later.

They offered the actual charge refund amount without interest chargeand as my daughter wanted to accept this, I wrote with another s/s including the now added £30. I said we would be minded to accept this offer provided they added on the £30.

She didn't sign any of the disclaimers or 'full and final settlement ' stuff so when she checked her account 2 weeks later, was surprised to find the money paid in. Now nearly 2 weeks later there has been no further letter from them detailing the amount.

I feel quite chuffed that we got the money and didn't have to sign any of the docs about full and final settlement.

Thanks to all on this site for airing the problem and giving template letters.
if i had known then what i know now
