I am in the process of claiming back my bank charges from HSBC who applied another charge yesterday. I phoned them and explained that I am currently challenging my previous charges and they refunded my £14 over the phone straight away. Funny that! keep challenging the banks, Dont let the Fat cats get fatter

    Martin,

Thank you very much, thanks soley to your web site I have today received the final payment of £17,808.48 recovered from the Halifax.

This total was bank charges incurred across two current accounts over the last six years.

As the figure was so large I started four seperate money claims through the "Money Claims" web site. The Halifax settled two of them within days of them being started. They settled the final two today after I "Requested Judgement" on the two claims last Sunday.

The Halifax responded to all four Money Claims with "They intend to defend", but days later I received the refund of the first two. The following day I received a letter from the Halifax.. it said "bla bla bla bla, the charges were perfectly legal and justified.... bla bla .... we have refunded you anyway."

My advice to people is, it doesn't matter how little, or how large, just send the letters. I would be very surprised if anyone fails to recover the funds.

    Martin, again thank you..

A very happy Mr & Mrs E from the Northwest of England.

PS, I don't know whether I will have the same success, but I have been spurred on to request a list of all penalty charges from any and all finance instituations I have have agreements with over the past six years, I will keep you posted. I would be happy to hear of any successes with none high street bank charge recovery attempts.

    Amount claimed £407
    Amount received £407

Our story, we had a joint account which we closed 2 years ago. Sent the first letter for statements.
Second letter requesting full charges refunded, received offer of £267, wrote back saying wanted full amount or would go to court and claim interest.
Letter received asking to call the manager.
Called and left several messages advising that we would accept the £407 to avoid taking them to court where we knew we would win, letter back this morning offering full £407

Thanks to everyone who helped on the Halifax thread and mostly thanks to Martin and the weekly newsletter which I can't wait for each week!!
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

The story: Reclaimed from HSBC, and decided to settle for speed's sake. Seemed to take ages whilst we were doing it, but only started to do it in January, so quite quick really! We got to the stage of threatening them with court.
