    Bank: HSBC
Amount Reclaimed: £2116.00 (£2299.91 inc interest)
    Amount They Paid: £1798.60

    My story:
    27.02.07:
After being able to get my statements online I totaled everything up and sent off the letter requesting my refund - including the interest.
14.03.07: Response from HSBC saying they will take 8 weeks to investigate.
19.03.07: The 14 days where now up on my original letter, but I had a dilemma. I could not afford the £120 to file an online claim at the moment, so I decided to wait for the investigations to be carried out. Keeping my figures crossed of course!!
28.03.07: I called to see how things were progressing and was told I was at the start of week 4/8. I sat back and waited - couldn’t do much else.
02.05.07: I made no further phone calls or sent no further letters and 8 weeks to the day, my boyfriend rings me at work to say a "Without Prejudice" letter had landed. :j

I am obviously chuffed to bits. :rotfl: The best thing is as I wasn't in the position to register for the court claim, I just sat back and waited..... I only made the one phone call to check on progress which I must admit I wasn't particularly pushy!
"...We are, however, mindful of the management time and irrecoverable legal costs that may be incurred in relation to such a claim. For those commercial reasons alone and without any admission of liability whatsoever, we are prepared to make payment to you for the sum of £1,798.60 in full and final settlement of this matter...."

The fact that they haven’t accepted the addition of interest is neither here nor there to be honest. I am delighted to have this much.

I hope this gives some hope to a few people who are in a similar situation. I haven’t posted much - but had to add my success to the list! Thank you so much to Martin, his team and everyone who uses this forum to keep us up to date on things.

    Amount Offered: £175

Halifax initially rejected my first request to reclaim my charges. After sending a letter threatening court action, they offered £87.50. I rejected this and asked them to reconsider by telephone and today I received a letter offering £175 - they do not wish to refund 2 £12 charges as "these charges are deemed to be within the law and therefore not be awarded by a county court". I'm going to accept this offer as it's close to the amount that I've claimed, and I'd like to retain a reasonable relationship with Halifax.

    Hi All,

    Bank: HBOS
    Amount Reclaimed: £814
    Amount They Paid: £814

Reached second letter when they paid. Didn't push for interest but at least got money back.

Used the letters from this site, cheers Martin. Oh I can also tell you my company now answers callls for a company who will go through the process on your behalf and they are quite busy, the word is out.

    Cheers:beer:
  • Bank: Natwest
    Claimed: £2132
    Settled: £1736

Story: After one letter, the one on here, Natwest offered to repay the charges BUT without the interest.

I wrote 3 letters declining the offer and demanding at least £2000 - but they didn't respond. I then phoned and was told that the offer was non negotiable, and was advised to commence court proceedings if I wanted the total in full.

I then decided to accept the original offer, and the money took less than a week to get to my account ! RESULT :T

    Thanks Martin

Received £1,607.05 today deposited as three amounts for £999, £386.50 and £221.55.

We haven't received a letter from Nationwide yet, so don't know if they'll close the account or not.

Thanks for your support and good luck to anyone who hasn't done it yet.

  • Halifax Bank

    Charged £2572.46

Requested £1800 for quick settlement (no interest)

No response to first letter - letter before action got canned response "we will respond to you within 8 weeks, etc etc"

Telephoned number on letter and said this was my last contact prior to me issuing court claim and was informed that he was unable to assist and sometimes Halifax are unable to respond within the 14 days people are requesting.

Waited a good 2 weeks then calculated interest and issued MCOL claim.

    Acknowledged on day 12 (damn)

10 days later got letter informing me full amount requested would be paid into my account within 5 days so I got every penny back plus interest. Great.

Halifax (in common with most banks) just delay delay delay presumably trying to deter you.

Get your claim filed on MCOL to get any action within a reasonable time with Halifax.

    Bank: NationWide
    Amount Reclaimed: £196,60
    Amount they paid: £196,60
The story: They very unfairly charged me £30 which, even after 4 polite letters, they steadfastly refused to refund even when I said I'd claim all my bank charges back if they didn't.
Had to go to court and they paid up with 3 days to go.
