    BANK : Halifax
    AMOUNT RECLIAMED : £30
    AMOUNT REPAID : £30

Posted inital request letter on Monday, credit of £30 paid into my current acount on Friday of the same week, no questions asked. Halifax customers note - The Halifax, have not repaid my bank charges it is purely a 'good will' gesture for me being such a good and loyal customer. Oh yeah!!!!!
  • BANK: Lloyds TSB
    AMOUNT RECLAIMED: £540
    AMOUNT RECEIVED: £540
    The story:
Sent off for statements in February for my solo account.
Sent letter requsting charges be repaid 28th March.
I was going to send my next letter to them yesterday saying I was going to start court proceedings but I totally forgot to go to the post office (I've sent everything recorded delivery)!

Received a letter this morning saying 'naughty, naughty, there are numerous ways to check your balance' etc, etc. Then to my absolute surprise the 5th paragraph read: 'Generally we don't agree to adjust any of these charges, but I can tell you on this occassion we are prepared to repay you £540 in full and final settlement of your complaint'. The money should be credited to my acct within 10 days!

I am so happy and am now looking forward to hearing about our joint accout! I know that the joint account may not be as easy as we are claiming a higher amount....... fingers crossed!

    Thank you Moneysavingexpert!

    Bank: Cahoot
Amount reclaimed: Didn't get that far!
    Amount they paid:£2,943

The Story: I only got to the first stage to ask for the data and they sent me the info and at the bottom it had my balance of £2,941 and then there was a credit of £2,943 ! so i phoned to check and they confirmed that they have credited my acount, So i told them i loved them!
weird bit is, when i added all the charges up it only came to £771 !!!!:j :j :j

amazing. 1 down 10 to go!!
  • Bank : Abbey
    Amount Reclaimed:£1200
    Amount they paid: £1249.03

This took up to a week before the court date for a summary cause in Scotland against Abbey before the paid out in full. Hope this gives some hope to others in Scotland to get their money back. Seems these claims never get to court but don't be scared to stand up and fight for what is yours and not the banks.
A big thanks to this site and for those who run it for helping us all.
  • Bank: the Woolwich
    Amount reclaimed: £104.30
    Amount they paid: £104.30

The story: It's only a small amount (£95.00 plus £9.30 interest), but very welcome nonetheless. Our initial letter was passed to a Woolwich "Sales & Service Manager", she wrote back to us to say she was "unable to respond fully to [our] concerns at this time because [she] was awaiting details of the charges incurred on [our] account". We didn't believe her for a second - if the bank doesn't have the details of its own charges to hand who does (we had specified all the relevant details in our letter). We wrote back the same day threatening court action - and the money was in our account within 24 hours! A letter followed from a Barclays Customer Relations Manager (Barclays are in the process of taking The Woolwich over) to say they disagreed with our view but were paying us anyway. Perhaps the take-over helped - Barclays might not want old Woolwich disputes left hanging in the air.

    Bank:HSBC
    Amount Claimed: 3546.50 before interest
    They paid: 3120.00

The Story: I sent my first letter on 28th Feb, requesting the charges amount - I included with this the full schedule of charges. received no response so sent my second letter, enclosing my first letter and schedule of charges again, on 27th March.

Day after our second letter was posted, we rec'd a reply saying they are looking into our complaint, but heard nothing more until today, when we had a letter offering 3,120 in full and final settlement.:D

We are going to accept this as we don't want to appear greedy, and at the end of the day that's £3546.00 I thought was gone forever!! I am so delighted!!

Thank you so much Martin for highlighting this matter and you have made a difference to my life that I can't begin to tell you.xxxxxxxxx:o

just a quick add-on, I reclaimed my charges from Nationwide, got a letter from them today, and, in a nutshell I really must endeavour to toe the line or they will close my account!
I could tell by the tone of the letter that they are REALLY hacked off with coughing up all this money! Shame!!!!!!!!!

    Halifax Bank
    £956.00 reclaimed
    Accepted offer of £856.00
I didn't think it was worth going to court for the extra £100. It took about 2 weeks for the cheque to arrive. I did telephone them to chase it up and they said that it would be another 10 days at least because of the high volume of claims they had received.
