  • Hi all,

    I've been following this site for months and seen very few success stories about Abbey, so I'm posting this to encourage others to take them on!

    The story:
    27/11/06 request for statements
    04/01/07 request for charges to be reeimbursed
    11/01/07 response "we're investigating"
    22/01/07 response "sorry you're unhappy blah blah"
    27/01/07 3rd letter (template) threatening them with court
    01/03/07 Macol entered
    12/03/07 response asking for account details & how I'd worked out the interest etc.
    23/03/07 received their defence
    14/04/07 received notice of transfer to the Bradford claim, telling me the Judge wants to have a word on 15th May before the hearing is allocated a date.
    04/05/07 received a letter from Abbey stating:

    In view of the quatum of your claim, Abbey National Plc has determined, in this instance, to settle your claim in full. Payment will be made in the sum of £616.89.
    Payment is in full and final settlement of you claim (ref number). Payment is calculated as follows:
    (i) £470.00 charges as claimed;
    (ii) £60.38 interest as claimed;
    (iii) £6.51 interest at the rate of 8% p.a. from 2 March 2007 to date; and
    (iv) £80.00 court fees incurred on the filing of the claim form and allocation questionaire.

    Abbey is raising a cheque for the sum of £616.89 that will be paid into your account (if open) or posted to you. We will now inform the Court that Abbey is settling your matter in full and asking the Court to withdraw the claim from the hearing list. Once you have received payment, would you please inform the court that you withdraw your claim, and provide us with a copy of your letter.

    Yours faithfully,
    Inga Kirkman

    Although it has been a rather long haul compared to others, I'm over the moon that they have finally seen the light!!!!!!!!:j :j :j :j

    A very big THANK YOU to Martin and all those that have been posting their story over the months, you have all been my support and inspiration in times of doubts!!!!

    Called into local branch 26/02/07 with copy of loan calc (thanks martin) told they could only auth a max of £50.00 at branch level and that it would need to be referred on. 14days later branch contact me stating they cannot deal with the matter without a covering letter letter sent13/03/2007.
    Nothing heard until 05/05/2007 letter received (surname spelt wrong!!) lots of waffle about the rights and wrongs and veiled threats re reducing account to basic levels if not agreed (just for those who worry I have a personal loan and an overdraft with the bank) but they have offered the full amount of the charges without interest(sad they must need the money!!) Took a while but got there in the end. If you don't ask you wont get now i'm looking forward to being a bit better off!!

    Sent 1st letter requesting statements on 15th January 2007

    Statements received on 22nd February 2007

    Sent letter detailing charges of £555 and £123.77 (interest calculated using Martins calculator) on 1st March

    Received a letter explaining that they were sorry I was disappointed with the service etc, and that they would look into my claim blah blah blah

    Received a letter on 17th April offering £155 in full and final settlement without accepting liability etc and if they haven't heard from me within 8 weeks they would assume I was happy with the offer.....NO CHANCE!!!

    I called up there and then to refuse the offer and was advised they would be back in touch within 10 -14 days.

    Letter arrived on 4th May offering settlement of £555 (total charges) and advised they cannot include interest unless it has been through the courts. I was happy to accept this figure as I still owe £400 on the card, so that will clear the balance for me:j . Letter of acceptance will be returned to them tomorrow morning recorded delivery and I will await my money....yipee
