Bank: Nationwide
Amount Reclaimed: £3295.50 plus intrest & court costs Total: £4343.55
Amount repaid: £4343.55
The Story: Sent two letters to Nationwide aking for refund of the charges, they refused. Registered with the online court system to claim money owing plus intrest. Nationwide said they were going to defend the case and the case was referred to Nottingham County Court. Two days later they deposited the whole amount into my bank account without a word!!:j
Recieved a letter a few days later saying they had refunded the charges but in future would have to comply with the terms & conditions in future.
Thanks for all the help & support:beer:0 -

Hi, little bit more success ( but very little):
Bank: GE Money
re Monsoon store card
Amount: £30
wrote 25/4 received reply today, paying in full - as a 'goodwill gesture'. This was only an aside whilst waiting for my other 6 claims at Court and one waiting to go there to come good - so I'm glad I tried.
I have also had £415 back from First Direct - already posted on that one!
Thanks to this site, and also to the CAG site for all your help.0 -

Just a quick post to say thanks. We're with First Direct who have always been a very good bank for us but, even so, still made unreasonable charges.
Took your advice, checked charges since we've been with them, sent letter to First Direct last Thursday (3/5) and had answer by Saturday (:T 5/5) saying they'll refund charges ---easiest £760 I've ever earned in three days.0 -

Halifax Bank
Amount Claimed: £1280
Amount recovered: £1200
Basically, i sent for statements mid feb, sent initial letter beginning of March, got the usual 8 weeks, sent another letter saying 14 days, got another letter saying !!!!!! off til 7th May. I decided to wait which perhaps wasnt the best idea but i wasnt to sure about the court process and was happy to wait. Tuesday morning, half the amount appears in my account with no letter or explanation, i call the bank and get an old dragon on the phone, i mean she was a real mean piece of work and then the following conversation took place.
I said i wasnt willing to accept half to which she said charges were lawful and that i agreed, i said that i agreed to let them recoup costs but £39 a pop were not the costs of an automated letter, she said that she didnt want to get into that as its security but they are still a business and have bills and wages etc, i said thats fine but that is not all covered using charges and the law states that they can recoup costs not use it to pay the bills, she said there is no way she is going over a £1000 and i said there is no way i'm accepting less than £1200, she said she cant do that and hypothetically speaking would i be prepared to pay for banking should it become an end to free banking, i said if they had said that from the beginning then yes, she then said ok i will take off £10 for each month that you have been with us for your claim. i argued that i thought we were takling hypothetically and not discussing charging me which they never said was an issue and that i was already willing to drop £80 of my charges to cover any costs, anyway, alot more to and froing similar to the above and she finally agreed to refund me the £1200... i dont mind saying she was a right pushy old cow but i was always very polite and i had read loads on this site so thanks to all those who have offered advice...
beers on me this weekend :T :beer:0 -
