Bank Barclays
Two amounts 1895 + interest and 1795 + interest from two different accounts. Had kept last six years bank statements, spent two nights loging charges, sent the specimen letter on your website to bank, received a friendly reply in a week offering 1200, and 1000 respectively. Thought about it, declined and offered to wave the interest payments calculate with your calculator, Today (four days later)received an offer of 1500 and 1300 respectively or the full amounts above with a proviso that I never go overdrawn again or the bank will "review our relationship" less friendly. Will go for the lot and if there is a problem with our relationship later I will deal with this as a separate issue. THank you so much for your website! over 3600 for two nights work and the price of a first class stamp. Onwards and upwards with my other back accounts now.:j :j :j :beer:0 -
21 Feb sent first letter outlining charges going back to 1999----I have every bank statement ever ever ever----shame I didn't calculate as far back as Noah's ark..........
23 Feb received lengthy letter telling me about charges policy etc
24 Feb sent letter to complaints Dept they referred me to detailing details of charges and telling them they have two weeks
7th March they pretend letter for refund is a complaint and they are dealing with it
16th March I proceed as I informed them I would and filled in online court claim
21 March they tell me the court processs now takes precedence over the 'complaint'so I will be hearing from their legal dept.
11 April the legal dept in Scotland tell me that if I sign the letter at the bottom accepting the offe of £185 refund of charges and £30 court costs they will let me off lightly. I write back saying in brief I accept the offer but will not sign a letter full of statements which are the gospel only according to Clydesdale. So glad I got an o level in something or another which allows me to detect Bull whenever it is written in obscure intimidating language..........................
25th April they send me a quick reply and a CHEQUE for £215 urging me to sign the lettter of discontinuance and send it to the court
did I intuit panic between the lines........well the court case is due on 28th and if I don't send this letter of discontinuance they might have to pay interest and court costs, and this is so tempting.........................have I got enough money for a stamp to send this letter of discontinuance?
25th April 1:15 p.m BANK THE CHEQUE BANK THE CHEQUE HURRAH

Amount Offered: £1000
I have posted the acceptance letter tonight
I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now and last weekend I trawled through my bank statements to calculate the total bank charges.
I posted the first letter requesting First Direct refund my bank charges on 15 April and today I received their offer. It has taken just over a week!
Now I'm just looking forward it to be deposited into my account.

Alliance & Leicester Bank
£468 inc court Charges
full amount paid
Received cheque for charges after I filed an online claim with the Northern Ireland Court Service. :j

Bank: Intelligent Finance
Amount Claimed: £940
Amount received: £940
They offered me half in a letter, I phoned back (there was a contact in their Customer relations department) and got through to the person who wrote the letter wanting to complain. All I said was something like "I am phoning about your letter offering me £400 of my £940 claim"...before I could go on he said, "I have your details here....and because your claim in less than £1,000 we are going to pay it into your account in the next few days....." What a result!!!
To everyone else out there who is still in the process of claiming...."GOOD HUNTING!!"...if you havent started...."JFDI!!"

Bank: Halifax
Amount Reclaimed:£1690
Amount they paid:£1510
The story: Very quick process after getting the statements and using MSE online calculator i personally took the letter into the local branch giving it to a member of staff noting the time and taking their name. Received a letter from the local branch the very next day saying they can't help me and its all my own fault they charged so much for going overdrawn.
Took another letter in the next day same process as before and phoned head office as well telling them what response i had from the local branch. Head office were very apologetic stated that they could help me and put me in touch with the relevant department. I believe the deputy manager had a bit of rollicking at the local branch for fobbing me off.
Within 2 weeks head office phoned me (day b4 i was due to start court process) told me charges were not illegal and offered me £400 as a goodwill gesture. I refused it within 30 secs they offered me £1000 again i refused they asked me how much i wanted i said the full amount without interest and thats what they paid me.

Nationwide
Bank Charge £30
Court Fee £30
Interest £0.25
It is quite sad that after 18 years of custom I should be treated as NW have. This was the first time I had a cheque bounced and I naively thought they would waive the fee because it was the online banking system that was at fault. It has taken over 5 months but they paid in full on the expiry day of my Money Claim Online.
It says a lot that they were willing to incur a further £30.25 extra costs rather than refund the £30 immediately.0 -
Halifax
Amount Claimed: £1,263
Amounted Paid : £1,263
I completed the template letters (thanks Martin) and personally delivered them to my local branch of Halifax, initially I requested a list of my full charges via email and to be fair Halifax sent them to me free of charge.
I opened a new account elsewhere and transfered all my direct debits, wages etc over so the Halifax account was left unused and over £900 overdrawn.
After a few weeks I had heard nothing so I sent another demand letter threatening court action. Halifax replied by offering me £721 as a gesture of good will and final settlement of my claim.
I refused this offer and hand delivered a refusal letter to my local branch. To my horror a few weeks later Halifax had placed the £721 into my account.
I got straight on the phone to the customer complaints team and spoke with a manager, she had my refusal letter and said that it is common practice to put the offered amount into the account. (personally I think they were hoping I'd just accept the amount and leave it) I told her that I had registered with money claim (which I had) and I would take it all the way. With this she broke in easy and offered me £1000, then £1100 and then with hardly a fight the full amount.
I am just waiting for the additional funds to be transfered. I can't believe how easy the whole process has been costing only a telephone call and a few envalopes.
Hope everyone else gets similar results, here to help if you want advice :T
Again Thanks Martin :money: :A0
