  • Hi All,

Sorry but didn't want to add this to the success claims as I thought that mainly related to Banking Charges specifically. I'm awaiting a reply from HSBC to a claim for £1700 but I've only had internet replies from the website. When I get paid on tuesday I'm at the MCOL Stage. From what I can see HSBC are filing alot of defences at the moment!

Anyway about this! I wrote to Ikano Financial Services on 21st March asking for charge details to an account relating to Allders Store card. They sent back details on 23rd , charges amounting to £170 and gave this info free of charge.

Wrote letter requesting cash on 28th March - No Reply.

Wrote second letter on 16th April ,using 14 days or court claim time. Without Prejudice would accept £125 by 30/04/07.

Today received letter offering £125 full and final settlement :T :rotfl:

"Any future charges will not be refunded for late payments" .... account was closed 3 years ago :rotfl: :rotfl:

Must sign and return a letter to them. Will add note at bottom still expect cheque by 30/04/07 or will proceed as advised.

IM SO HAPPY ITS A GOOD START - come on HSBC, you are next.

*Also awaiting statements from GE CAPITAL BANK , and pondering contacting the student loans company * I got into a mess and spent the last few years with :A payplan :A sorting it all out - debts paid up. Now it looks as though I'm gonna get some money back.

Keep at it guys !

Success.....I have got my money back from Natwest.

    Successfully claimed back £250.

I did myself out of my interest by mistake though. I put the correct amount in the particulars of claim, but when it came to inputting the totals in the online claim form, i missed off the interest so i lost out on £74. Ah well, learning curve etc.

  • I would just like to say a massive 'thank you' to Martin for this site and the help it has given me. First Direct have today sent me an offer just over £2k. Nice one, it was so easy, I telephoned and asked for my statements - the lady on the 'phone tried to scare me by telling me that the statements were £2.50 each so it would be very expensive; however, as I work in financial services I am aware of the Data Proteciton Act - there's a part of it called Subject Access Request - it basically means that you can access information about you for no more than £10. She said that £10 would be the maximum when I challenged her on the subject :-). Statements were promptly sent, I spent about half an hour going through them and another half an hour sorting the spreadsheet details and the letter, printed and sent and within 10 days I have an offer for the full amount, less interest that they will not pay. All in all, I am a very happy chappy tonight. I hope that this inspires others to do the same, it is so easy to do - an hour's "work" and I got my £2,000, back! Thanks Martin and the other people on here that gave me the inspiration.

  • After I began the process of letters last November, starting the online court proceedings at the start of March, I finally received a (rather long-winded) letter from TSB's solicitors Sechiari, Clark & Mitchell last friday offering to pay my full claim (in excess of £5K) plus interest and my court costs. Of course, being rather "in the mire" financially I snapped their hands off! They will probably do this with all claims but, be warned, the brinksmanship and time-wasting does not stop here...
The letter was dated a full 8 days before it arrived, and upon receiving it I rang them straight away to find out what the process of repatriation was. At the bottom of page 2 of my letter is a declaration to sign agreeing to accept my claim so I asked them if I could fax this, to which they said yes. I duly did this and rang them back half an hour later to make sure. I was told yes they had, it was fine and the settlement was being actioned, the money would be in my account in 3-5 working days (why the hell this is the case, god only knows). On Monday, they rang me to request that I send in the letter as they needed more than a fax. I was assured that this wouldn't delay the funds being paid into my account. Yesterday I contacted them again to be told by some clerk that "he couldn't check my file" and that the process takes 7-10 working days  I responded that I had been told 3-5 last friday, he said that would still stand... The letter states that I must "sign a copy of the letter" which I did last week, yet they are asking for the actual letter back now  I was told by some snotty !!!!! on their switchboard it is "very unreasonable" to expect a call back within a day as they are snowed under with these claims.
5 working days from responding to their letter I am still skint. Why on earth would it take this amount of time for Lloyds to pay money into a Lloyds account???

Of course, the real reason these banks hang on to the money as long as they possibly can is interest. I'm not talking about the rubbish they offer to the public or 5, 10%... I'm talking considerable interest via the international money trades EVERY bank uses and the public (and their hapless front line staff) will never know about, the kind of money that earns big city traders millions in bonuses and trades that are gagged and bound by all-encompassing confidentiality clauses
  • Hi Martin

    Bank: Halifax
    Amount claimed: £3456.97 inc'l interest
    Amount received: £2800

Asked the bank for 6 years worth of statements. They came through within a week. Started my claim 02/03/07. Sent first letter. They responded in a very helpfull way stating that they where looking into my complaint, but it would take up to 8 weeks. Got a letter 16/04/07 saying as a goodwill gesture the bank would credit my account with £1589 to end this matter. Phoned the guy dealing with this and told him that i would not accept and that i would be taking it to court. He changed the offer to £2500. I said i would accept £2800 for the charges but would waiver the interest costs, he agreed. I also wanted written proof that they would not close my account down. Got a letter today stating that they wont be closing my account down and the money will be in my account within 7 days. Cant believe how easy this has been. :j :j :j :j :j :j :j

Giving you a big kiss Martin :kisses3:
  • I claimed £2,172.60 from NatWest - charges over a 3 year period. Used all the template letters provided on this website. Started in December 2006 and as of yesterday, was still awaiting a court hearing date as NatWest put in a defence via Cobbetts solicitors. Lots of aggravation and lots of communication since December 06 but today, 20th April 2007, they have paid me £2,321.17, which covers the cost of the claim plus a tiny bit extra. Brilliant result. My advice, don't give up - follow it through to the bitter end. Many many thanks to Martin Lewis for his excellent website!!!
