Reclaimed Bank Charges SUCCESS stories

Hi everyone,
first of all BIG thanks to Martin.
We sent letter to Barclays beginning of March, reclaiming bank charges of £1019, first of all they wrote after 2 weeks saying they were sorry we had a complaint and they would pass it to the relevant department to deal with. We wrote back with Martin's next letter, saying if we hadn't received the money in 14 days we would take them to court, they replied exactly 14 days later with an offer of £645, which we decided to accept rather than possibly have to go to the hassle of taking them to court. The money has gone into our account today.
Thanks again.

after 4 letters requesting politely my charges detailed for past 6 years and them then sending me 2 standard "go away" letters after 3 months I finally got a settlement offer at about 60% of all the charges as a figure nicely into 4 figures..... Made all the hassle and nights writing the letters and checking my facts worth it.
Obviously the account will be closed soon after the payment is made.....

Natwest Bank
Amount Claimed (Charges + Interest) - £946
Amount Claimed (Compensation and Ancillary Losses) - £631.17
Total Received - Full £1,577.170 -
BANK - First Direct
AMOUNT CLAIMED - £50
AMOUNT PAID - £50
STORY - Second successful claim from this bank. We had already received a refund to the amount of £275 as joint account holders but my husband had this account in his sole name for a few years before he added me. He claimed for the period the account was in his name separately and they paid out today. It did take a 2nd letter this time but overall about 4 weeks from start to finish.
Thanks. We shall never be going over our overdraft limit again!!0 -
Amount Owed - £2306.00
Amount Recieved - £2052.00
My Story,
I wrote to HSBC on 27/02/07, recieved the mandoroty we are dealing with your claim letter 05/03/07.
Waited till 20/03/07 for a response then phoned the bank to chase up my claim, was told I would be receiving an offer within the next 10 working days.
Last night 18/04/07 received an offer letter of £2052.00, which I am accepting.
Very very pleased with my result!!!! Everybody else please get claiming!!! they can only say no and if they do threaten the court action!
Thanks Martin and everybody else in this forum for the success stories and the help and advice

Learning to look after my money better0 -
Bank: First Direct
Amount Reclaimed: £110
Amount they paid: £110
The Story: they took one look at your letter and rolled over right away. I have a handwritten cheque on my desk right now. It couldn't have been easier and it was all over in under 2 weeks.
Thanks Martin!

Hi,
Just a small claim, but the charges niggled me so I was happy to get them quashed. All figures, dates, etc are approximate, full details can be supplied.
Bank: RBS
Amount Reclaimed: £66 (+£28 not yet applied)
Amount they paid: £66 (+£28 not yet applied)
Letters required: 1
The Story: Initially my fault, forgot to put enough in the account for a D/D. They rejected the D/D and charged me £38, which put the account into overdraft. I corrected this the next day, but they charged me £28 at month end for going overdrawn, which in turn put the account into overdraft AGAIN- meaning that I would get hit with the same charge the next month! I wrote a single letter offering them the opportunity to make up for their overzealous automated charges system. The never admitted any guilt etc., but refunded all charges, even the one that hadn't yet been applied.
Result!
Regards,

:j :j Finally i get to post in this thread
Bank: JD Williams
Amount Reclaimed: £115+£35 Interest+£30 Court Costs
Amount Paid: £181 Full and final settlement
Story: Sent email on Simply Be website 1stMarch asking for statements, they responded very quickly and had my statements within 3-4 days. Sent initial letter off on 4th March, they sent me a most definitely not letter which was quite rude and told me how it was my fault i had incurred those charges, i sent 2nd letter off immediately and in the end had to go through MCOL, finally started MCOL 1st April, the didnt acknowledge it until 16th April and i received a letter yesterday for the full and final amount. Not yet got the money yet though but ive sent my response letter recorded delivery today.
Thanks for all the help this site has given me:T :T :T , im gonna need it as i still have 2 ongoing MCOL claims against HSBC...they have until 5th May to submit a defence D-Day!0 -

Barclays
Claimed £523
I did'nt want to take them to court, as the expense of paying the MCOL costs, local court costs, etc. So I just waited and true to their word (they said they would contact me by 18/04/07), I have today received an offer of £400!! which i will accept. Not bad for writing a letter and waiting 6 weeks.

Bank Royal Bank of Scotland (Virginone Account)
amount of claim: £1047
Recieved:£1158!
Only sent first letter giving 7 days to reply - very busy and did not follow this up after 7 days. Suddenly realised 3 weeks had passed and thought they were ignoring us (did not send it recorded) and was about to send threat of court when received letter in the post saying they had paid the above into our account as final payment - interesting as it was more than requested but did not argue with it! However, they made it crystal clear that if we intended breach their contract again the amount charged would still be £29 per item and if we had a problem with this they would take away our debit cards, cheque book and cheque guaranteed cards! Just let them try.
Barclaycard/Mastercard
Amount claimed: £700
Received: £380
Still working on this one they said they are only repaying difference between new set amount and what was charged but would not include interest which in some months was as high as 34%! They also put the money onto the cards which we had got down to £0.00 so will use to pay towards holiday using the card then will cancel! Had to send three letters in total and had started to fill out court details online. May still go there if no improvement in refund.
Halifax
Amount: £48
Received:£35
Not going to argue. Still only needed one letter with no threat of court but they took in excess of one month to respond with an amount (sent interim letter to say looking into it).
Martin how can I thank you enough for all the advice. My hubbie was very sceptical at the start but is all smiles now. Having been a mature student for past three years money has been so very tight and this is a refreshing bonus as well as acheiving my degree! A huge thank you.0
