Just to say thanks to martin for his advice on this site. This morning a letter came from my bank with a positive ending to my request for bank charges to be returned. I am now £432.50 better off. We are now waiting for my partners letter...he has asked for £1500. All it took was one letter and 8 weeks!!!

SUCCESS - I am 151 pounds beter off after just two simple template letters were sent - I did have all the relevant paperwork still which probably helped resolve it so fast... but money back within 3 weeks.
Halifax refunded 25 pounds - the difference between 50 pounds when I took out my mortgage in 2000 and 75 pound fee paid in 2002
Abbey have today refunded 126 pounds - difference between 95 pounds fee when I took it out in 2002 and paid 225 in 2004 ( don't know why it's 4 pounds short) but I'm thrilled
Still waiting to hear back from First Direct over my bank charges and also trying to claim back charges on two credit cards too
But thanks for all yor help. Hope everyone else is as successful as I have been so far.
Good Luck0 -
Bank: Alliance and Leicester
Amount: £3166.89
I have just won the full amount back, including interest, from the Alliance and Leicester.
They initially said no to each letter (the usual "no, we told you in our terms and, blah, blah, blah").
Once I stumped up the cash to take them to court (which I also got back) they acknowledged within 2 days and then waitied until the deadline and I entered the judgment by default.
They obviously knew it was coming as the cheque we recieved was dated 2 days before the deadline !!
I am also taking HSBC to court for £2895.60, but annoyingly they've offered a defence.
I'll keep you posted as to what happens with that one, but either way I'm £3000 better off, so anything more is a bonus !!0 -
