  • After listening to Martin on Radio 2 I wondered how much I had been charged over the years by Halifax for exceeding my overdraft limit. I requested a history of all these charges, unfortunately I had to pay £5 to do so! They sent me through all of my staements and I calculated £282 charges over 6 years. I followed the steps that Martin has outlined and I received a call from halifax offering me £60 as a "good will gesture" I said was claiming for £282 and they then immediately offered me £158 which I could have fought, but decided I couldn't be bothered and accepted it! 2 weeks later it was in my account!!

  • Bank = Royal bank of Scotland, amount claimed £2,387.88, amount offered (in a gesture of goodwill without admission of error or liability!) £2,380.00 - accepted. It was a nice surprise to receive and accept the offer after an initial offer of £1,300 which I did not accept. I threatened the bank with small claims court and started the paperwork, but the offer came and the court case can be stopped. I'd like to thank the website for the information and templates on applying for the charges to be returned. As I'm currently unemployed the money will be very useful.

    Amount Reclaimed: £939.53
    Amount they paid: £736
The story: Took one letter, they rang and offered £200. My husband dropped it into the conversation casually that we were in the process of taking Barclays to the small claims court for a very similar amount. They asked what would be the least we would accept. We said the amount less the interest, they said DONE! I know I could have held out for the full amount but hey it's Christmas, and every little helps. Amazing that they upped their offer by over £500 in less than 5 minutes:rotfl: ! Keep going!
