  • Bank:Nat West
    Amount Reclaimed:£499
    Amount they paid:£499
    The story:
I wrote claiming the charges back but was told that they would not refund the money. I wrote again saying that if they did not refund the money I would be forced to take them to court, to which they said "go ahead".

I wrote one last time saying that, a)I have the court papers filled out and am ready to send them in 14 days, b)If forced to go to court I will be expecting a further £160 odd in interest, c)I will not write again, if I don't hear back will assume our discussion over and will just send the forms off on the specified date

This morning I recieved a letter, explaining that they disagree with my position and dont accept anything I'm saying but as a gesture of good will they have included a cheque for the £499 I'm claiming.

Thanks Martin and all the other people who have shared their knowledge, experience and encouragement on these boards, and best of luck to all the other claimants.

Have over last four weeks had £880 refunded from Halifax, £230 from Lloyds TSB and today £850 from Citibank. The latter being the only ones that would'nt settle in full i.e. I claimed £880.
it does take a little time and persistents but you win......... and also the moneyclaim costs up front.
    It pays to challenge

    Amount Recieved: £450

Sent two letters and after the second letter, recieved an offer that i accepted.

    Royal Bank of Scotland
    Amount Claimed: £8,511.47
    Amount Recieved: Ongoing

Both letters sent, Online court claim proceeded with, RBS acknowledged 2 days before first deadline, awaiting second deadline.
  • Bank: Halifax
    Amount Reclaimed: £2073
    Amount they paid: £2359.48
The story: Sent the initial letter 23/10 to which the Halifax replied with a good will gesture offer of just over £1000. Refused this, filled in the letters and documents recommend on this site, and issued proceedings against the Halifax on the 6/11. Halifax intended to defend the claim but paid out all £2073 plus court costs and interest this week (24/11) becuase, and I quote from their letter " on a purely commercial basis, it will cost the Halifax money to defend your claim in terms of legal costs, which it is unlikely that the Halifax will be able to recover." Nice!! Thank you for all the help available on this site. Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!
  • I recently pursued a claim for refund of charges on behalf of my son. He did sign the letters that I drafted. After the first letter HSBC offered £2000. We rejected this and 3 weeks later offered £2500 which we excepted. The total claimed was £2400 but with interest would have taken it a little over £3000. My son was a bad customer so I think we can be proud of the achievement. I am now pursuing similar claims for his friends. It is definetley worth it. Give it a go.
  • Bank - First Direct
    Amount claimed - £797
    Amount won - £797

Just thought I'd share my experince with you all,

I was made redundant, savings eventually ran out and i exceeded my £250 agreed overdraft limit by £50. At the time i had isufficient funds to cover to excess. The bank ( FD ) applied charges upon charges until the amount built up to £967 ( even though i had infomed them i was unemployed and could'nt pay the monies back at the time. They responded by shutting my account down ( I had been a customer for 12 years ) They offered me a loan to pay of the debt which i signed ( foolishly ) the debt now stood at £1097. I could'nt manage the monthly payments and eventuallly got served up with court summons for debt. I saw Martin on Breakfast tv talking about how to get your charges back. I filled in the court sommons online to contest the amount i owe ( I owe the bank £300 not £1097 ). Their( FD) Solicitors letter came two days later with a settlement figure of £300 payable over five years with 0% interest added !
