  • Got a letter today notifying me of £930 in refunds direct into my Co-Op bank accounts (as of writing only received £160). I sent my original letter on 27th September so yes they do take their time. They replied in the first instance stating that someone would contact me within 7 days, and they didnt. Then I got a 2nd letter saying the same (and they didnt) and a third saying they would be investigating and it would take 6 weeks. In the meantime I have stopped depositing any money as it was simply being put against my then unauthorised overdraft (which never topped a measly £300) - I have to have something to live on for goodness sake. Call centre and local branch powerless to help in what has been the worst year of my life (I have only had charges since Dec 2005). But this refund will help me get back on track (which I was doing anyhow) - started a new job in September after period of unemployment and anyhow for god sake the money is rightfully mine. I will never trust banks again!!!
  • HSBC: Amount claimed - £1650

All after the first letter! I'm not sure if I should accept this Barclays offer yet, would usually fight it all the way but could really do with the cash for xmas!

Telephone the bank regarding two seperate charges the member of staff couldn't even tell me what they were for properly, she tried to fob me off, didn't work, I stated I wanted a definate answer what they related to, she still couldn't explain. I eventually said I wanted them refunding by the end of the week or I'd be taking matters further, and hey presto they did refund.
I still have no idea what they related to though! very puzzling, but i'm glad I bite the bullet and called.

    Thanks to Martin

  • Bank: Barclays
    Amount Reclaimed:£2019.40
    Amount they paid:£2019.40
    The story:
21/08/06 Sent letter to barclays asking for 6 years of unlawful charges back.
Barclays offered to settle for around £560.00.
I refused and asked for statements going back 6 years which were sent at no extra cost to me.
1 month later started court proceedings demanding all money and barclays acknowledged court letter and stated defence would be entered. 28 days later no response so won by default.
25/11/06 letter arrived in post this morning, Barclays stating will pay all monies owed provided I stop warrant of execution. Case ended.

Well done and thankyou Martin (also including GMTV and Consumer Rights advice) couldn't of done it without any of these guys.
  • Bank: Abbey
    Amount Reclaimed: £275
    Amount they paid: £275

Paid me in full within 7 Days! Now thats a miracle!

Sent to complaints department directly by registered post. They still believe they were in the right and this is their usual "Gesture of Goodwill"...hmm..my butt cheeks.
  • I was silly enough to use (and get into trouble with) a Bhs store card a couple of years ago. It was operated by GE Capital (now known as GE Money)

I was aware that I'd been 'fined' for quite a few late payments, but couldn't remember the exact amount of these 'fines' (ie: charges) or how many times I'd had charges added to my account.

Decided not to send them a cheque for £10 to find out exactly how much I was 'owed' ... but just to write and ask for a refund.

    Success! :rotfl:

GE Money replied with two A4 pages ... explaining why they thought they ought not to reimburse my charges. And then in the very last sentence informed me that they'd be sending a cheque for £93 "within the next couple of days".

... And sure enough, it arrived this morning! Yayyyy! :T

(So I have now been reimbursed by Capital One and GE Money. NatWest are still dragging their heels over a repayment of £1,420-worth of excess charges ... and I've not had any sort of reply at all from Barclaycard, M&S Financial Servives, and Style Financial Services).

    Cheers Everybody!
