  • I have just had a really nice surprise this morning when I logged on to my internet banking. After sending an initial letter (the draft from this website) to Abbey I received standard reply and thought I would have to take futher action. However, this morning I find they have refunded all my charges totalling £256. Not much compared to some people but it will certainly come in handy in time for Christmas and proves that you can reclaim what is rightfully yours!!!
Many Thanks to Martin for opening my eyes
  • Amount claimed before interest £1517.50.

    Initial letter sent on 24/10/06

Letter before action sent 07/11/06 including interest on the above amount.

Just logged onto my account 16/11/06 and found that the full amount has been credited to the account stating "interest adjustment"
    No secure message!
    No letter received!

Fantastic - thanks for all the help on this site and Consumer action group!
  • Halifax - amount claimed £414
    - amount received £414

This amount included £50 I claimed for 'inconvenience and distress!'
  • A couple of months ago I went overdrawn by 72p in my halifax current account, it was a genuine mistake but I was charged £30 for it which I could not really afford. Last week I sent a letter to halifax (template letter from a thread here) and today I have received a reply saying they will refund the £30, I am so happy as it will make such a difference to my budget. yeyey, thanks everyone for all the threads and help offered here
  • Bank: Natwest
    Amount Reclaimed: £418
    Amount they paid: £418
    The story:
Charges accrued over 2 weeks whilst we were in financial difficulty and we wrote to the bank to tell them and asked them to go easy on the charges.
A £300 overdraft was supposed to have been set up, but wasn't.
First letter with £218 offer- rejected
Second letter after threatend court action an offer of £418 came, which we have accepted on the proviso of no further charges to be applied in this period, all in all, took 3 weeks.

    Bank: HSBC
    Amount Reclaimed: £471.00
    Amount they paid: £450.00
The story: Sent 1st letter, had no acknowledgement. Send 2nd letter, still nothing. Waited for 3 weeks and was debating lodging through the courts. The morning I had worked up the courage to do it, I had a letter from HSBC saying they accepted no liability, thought that they were in the right, that I would lose if it went to court etc etc but offering me a 'goodwill gesture' of £450 quid! :j I settled, and am looking forward to a lovely Christmas! Have since encouraged all friends and workmates to do the same.

Big thanks to all on here posting encouragement and stories of success, and of course to Martin for bringing it to our attention in the first place. Thanks Martin! :money:

    Hi,

I reclaimed just under 1k from NatWest from a closed account and 600 and something from Lloyds (open account) - including court costs. I had to start proceedings with both and it wasn't until a court date came through that I got letters from both (seperately obviously) saying that the cost of going to court would be more than settling out of court so they would pay in full!! - took about 2 months from start to end.

Best thing I've done this year!!

  • Bank: Royal Bank of Scotland
    Money claimed: £28
    Money offered: £144
Details: Having heard Martin on R2 a few months ago I got to thinking about all the charges that had been levied recently. Having managed to put off a £30 referral fee in August I had still been hammered £216 in charges over the past three months. I got a bank statement with a notice attached saying that I was about to be charged another £28 and having had no success on the telephone I sent off a letter saying that I thought the charges were unlawful and saying I didn't want this charge to go out and that if it did I would be hiring a solicitor with regard to the other £216. Imagine my surprise when all for the cost of an envelope (it was even FREEPOST) I received an offer of £144! :rotfl:

    Thank you Martin!

great news!! can you tell me wether lloydstsb are closing your account since you claimed the charges back off them,or are you able to still use your account.
  • I was charged £220 by nationwide for a direct debit that had been returned including interest ( it was returned twice) although i had cancelled it with the tv licence people.so i rang the branch and asked them to let me speak to a customer service manager, i was told that there was only an internal number and asked what my complaint was about. so there i was with the mse page in front of me quoting all these sentences to her , told her that if i had had the money myself and spent it fair enough but as i hadnt had it why should i be charged when in fact nobody had had the money, you should hear from the head office within a week she said. this was wednesday .today ,saturday i had a letter saying , sorry for any inconvienence please accept our apologies and that as a valued member the sum of £220 has been refunded.
