Reclaimed Bank Charges SUCCESS stories

I assume that before I can send the first letter in the process of trying to reclaim bank charges I must have basic information to hand, ie be able to quote my account number. I am referring to an account which was closed a couple of years ago and all statements etc I foolishly destroyed some time ago.
Will the bank be able to provide the information requested without the account number? Am I right in assuming they must be able to trace me from my full name, date of birth and address?
Any assistance would be much appreciated.0 -
Bank: Barclays
Amount Reclaimed: £1900
Amount they paid: £1900
The story: Sent two letters to them over 28 days(used the templates). After sending second letter they said they would pay half. Phoned them up and told them it was unacceptable and they said they would 'compromise.' I told them what I would 'compromise' at (the full asking) and they agreed. Thank you so much moneysavingexpert:):cool:0 -
andrew2003, i think the whole being charged issue is being looked at and if you think its unfair in terms of how much you have paid, than i suggest you look into it.0

Name, address and date of birth should be sufficient for them to trace any account held by them in the past.0 -
andrew2003 wrote:if i have got several accounts with the same bank do i need to send 3 letters and 3x £10 cheques and then do i deal with each sepately after that or add all the charges up. can anyone help me with this please...
You are asking for the Data held on you so one letter with all acccount numbers and one cheque for £10 should be sufficient.
Depending on how they send you this information will determine how you sort out the charges on the three accounts.
As regards your mortgage account, you may be able to claim back charges made because of late payments but I don't see how you can claim back solicitors charges from the bank0 -
