  • Claimed - £2,425.50
Accepted - £2,565.45 (including £150 accrued charges up to 9 April)

I have been going through the whole letter to bank, MCOL, dealing with their solicitors, only to receive a letter directly from HSBC this morning, referring to my letter dated 20 February 2007 (i.e. the first letter I ever sent off!), making no mention of Court or solicitors or anything!

Nonetheless, the acceptance form will be going off today or Monday!

    Nice start to the weekend!

  • Halifax?BoS
    Claimed £2294.65
    Paid out in full

Claimed complete 6 years worth of charges plus statutory interest.
Bank initially made a written offer of £1200 as a 'gesture of goodwill' and urged me to speak to a named rep by phone. When I turned it down, instantly offered just over £2000!!! Refused that, said I was lodging the claim with the courts .... and got cut off!!!
Halifax filed notice of receipt on the last day of the 14, but before the 28 days were up, simply transferred the full amount into my account with no letter or explanation of any kind. RESULT! So far they haven't closed my account and have not as yet even reduced my overdraft limit.
Many thanks due to MONEYSAVINGEXPERT... couldn't have done it without you, cheers!
  • Bank: Lloyds TSB
    Amount Reclaimed: £640
    Amount they paid: £837.70
    The story:
Sent off the first letter and got the usual "we're not interested" response, so I started the claim in the courts. Claiming for £720 (£640 charges and £80 costs).
I received the Allocation Questionnaire from the court and it was then that I decided to add the interest to it. This came to £921.12 but I had no intention of trying to reclaim the interest initially.

Anyway, checked my statements this morning and have got a "b.c rfnd" which I assume is a bank charges refund of £837.70 in my account.

Many thanks to Martin and especially Edinburghglass too for all their help with this.

  • I have just successfully got £120 back in unfair bank charges from First Direct by sending the letter on the site.

I got £30 back from Cahoot just by phoning and asking for it - I was charged in 2001!!

Not much compared to some but a real victory for me!! Many thanks

    Bank: Alliance and Leicester
    Amount claimed £509
    Settlement £509

Had to go to online court claim stage, when A & L wrote to say my claim was for a period in excess of 6 years (this was because of the time taken to get to this stage, by which time we had moved on 3 months from my original request for information). They asked me for a further list of charges for 6 years from the date of online claim and a reply within 7 days. This slightly reduced the amount of the original claim but this morning I got a cheque for the full original amount. They are to contact me shortly because 'it is clear that you do not accept the terms and conditions ...of my account'. No problem, I've already got another account opened. I've been with them and their predecessor Giro for 25 years and I've never been treated as a valued and loyal customer.

Thanks for all the help on this site - it couldn't have been easier to pursue the claim with the guidance available.
  • Bank: Smile the internet bank
Amount Reclaimed: £1239.31 (£951.23 unfair charges plus £288.08 interest)
    Amount they paid: £909.50

I used the templates on the Money Saving Expert.com website. I sent the first letter on 28th December 2006 requesting a list of default charges. I sent the second letter requesting £1239.31 to reclaim charges and interest on the 1st February 2007. I sent a third letter on the 19th February threatening court action. I was offered £909.50 on the 7th March 2007. Smile claimed that this was the the total amount applied by them and that my original total included debit card charges which had not been applied by them. I am happy with this total as it is money I thought I had lost. Thanks Martin and the Money Saving team for the advice and templates on the website.
