  • Amount Claimed: £538.00 inc interest:T

I sent them a letter in February. I received a letter explaining that my complaint was being dealt with and that they would get back to me shortly. I received a letter yesterday stating they would be paying my claim in full and that the money would be in my account within 14 days.
  • Bank: First Direct
    Amount claimed £1600 20 Feb
    Amount paid £1600 10 Mar

    Bank: NatWest
    Amount claimed £2200 20 Feb

Both these amounts received after only the first letter, didn't even have to threaten court.

    Thank you Martyn

This thread is especially to report your successes taking on the banks to reclaim unfair charges.
The aim is to show others that it is possible and it works.
Please report your successes here, if possible in the format

    Bank:Barclays
    Amount Reclaimed:[£985.00/B]
    Amount they paid:[£735.00/B]
The story: I initially wrote to Barclays 12.3.07 using the downloaded letter from the website. I received a basic " we are sorry that you had to contact us about the level of service received" letter. It said my complaint would be dealt with by 13.04.07. Today (13.4.07) I have recieved an offer of £730.00 which I will accept. After all, it is £730.00 I thought i would never see again!

I am now an official Martin Lewis bore!!
    Thanks Martin!
(just a few sentences, please include how far you went did you a. just write a letter, b. threaten to go to court or c. actually go to court )
Please don't use this thread for general discussion on reclaiming bank charges.

  • Bank: Halifax
    Amount Reclaimed:£950
    Amount they paid: £638
The story: Responded after letter 2 took a month and a half to decide to give me back my money but am taking the offer as I reclaimed 6 years not realising that under Scots Law I was only entitled to claim 5 years
Thanks for the great advice on here and also when you are on GMTV

  • Bank: Alliance and Leicester
    Amount claimed: £473.92
Amount paid: £523.92 (yay, got £50 court costs back too!)

I originally wrote the bank 8th March using the letter template I downloaded from the site and didn't even receive acknowlegement of the letter! I proceeded with the 2nd letter 2 weeks later, still didn't receive acknowledgement so carried on with taking them to small claims court on 3rd April. I received a letter then (funny that!!) saying that they had received the Court Order and that they wanted 28 days to prepare a defence... I finally received another letter this morning (13th April) with a cheque in it for the full amount I claimed and a request that I let the court know that the matter has been settled and to let me know that they will be closing my account for me!

    An excellent result!

Keep at it, Martin knows his stuff... :T

    natwest
    amount claimed £927
    amount recieved £927

natwest offered me a refund after my first letter asking for the £927 back, the letter said they felt the charges were fair however after considering my case they would offer a goodwill gesture of £927 but it took 14 working days to reach my account, so i was glad when it got there, they didnt close my account but said if i had trouble managing my account to contact the bank for advice. i am now trying to claim £795 from Lloyds but they sent me back a standard letter saying now so i am now threatening court action does anyone have advice?????
  • On behalf of my boyfriend

    Bank: Halifax
    Amount Reclaimed:£4800
    Amount they paid:£3530
    The story:
My boyfriend asked me to look into reclaiming the charges for him but he didnt really think he was entitled to anything back.
I sent the first letter from the website requesting a list of the charges 3 weeks ago. Received a letter yesterday offering £3530.00. Boyfriend has accepted despite me thinking we could get more. The pub obviously calling him and his newly full pockets, is too much for him to continue with the full claim. Altho he has asked me now to chase up on his Halifax Credit Card!

Goodluck to everyone else still fighting!

    Gemxx ;)
