  • I claimed £1016 from Nationwide inclusive of interest. I sent a letter first and they sent me a reply saying no. I then started a claim and was paid all the money within 28 days. They kept my account open but told me if i occured charges again they would give me 30 days notice to close my account. Great result!
  • Bank of Scotland (HBOS)

Amount of original claim: £205 - letter send January including warning that would take legal action if did not pay.
February used MCOL to take court action - therefore increases bill to Bank of Scotland by £60 for interest charges and £30 court fees - £295
March - Bank of Scotland acknowledges claim but does nothing else. Apply for and get judgement in my favour.
April still hear nothing from B of S so apply for and get warrant thereby increasing amount owed by another £55 - total £350

Received cheque for £295 for court claim. Phoned to say now additional £55 becasue of warrant and told that another cheque for £55 has been deposited with bailiffs.

Original amount claimed £205 plus interest and charges of £145 mean cost to Bank of Scotland £350.

From day one both the bank and I knew they were going to settle
I am not an accountant but does them not paying on day one make sense.
  • Bank: Halifax
    Amount claimed: £853 + interest
    Amount Paid: £850

Sent letter asking for list of charges which was sent to me within a couple of days free of charge. Then sent the first template letter making a claim for my bank charges plus interest. Received acknowledgement letter about a week later telling me they have 8 weeks to respond. After waiting just over 2 weeks sent 2nd court threatening letter. 1 week later (today) got a call from Halifax offering me £600 which i declined, they asked me what i would except so we agreed on £850 which should be in my account within 14 days.

Amazing, it really works! I can now have a summer holiday! :rotfl:  :T

    Hi
Just to let you know I have just checked my Nationwide account and had a nice surprise to say the least.

Nationwide - I claimed for £2288 and got back £2180, no letter to close my account or that they were paying me back. Did take about 8 weeks from start to finish, did everything by the book, got as far as just about doing a judgment online.

Just goes to show you they push you all the way and it can seem like forever.

Good luck to all you who are going through the same motion, my advice is dont give up although you may feel like it somtimes - you WILL get your money back.

    Thanks Martin

Yes this happened to me and seems to be happening more and more. I checked my Lloyds account to check whether my expected back pay from work had gone through smoothly to find I had much more than I expected.
It turned out that the previous day they had paid me the £1572 I was claiming and was in the court process at the time. It was a further week before I received a letter from Llouds solicitor to say they were paying me. Not even a curtesy letter from the bank itself

Is this another silly game? Everybody keep an eye on your accounts. You may well have been paid and not know about it.

  • Bank: First Direct
    Amount Reclaimed: £303.00
    Amount they paid: £303.00
The story: I rang them to see how much they charge for providing details of charges - they don't they just send you 6 yrs of statements to trawl through yourself. Then used the template letter, including interest, to write to them. Within a week I received a letter saying that although they do not accept any liability they will, on this occasion, refund the £303.00, not paying any interest. What a success - I'm of to reclaim my MEAF now!!:T
Have been reading this site for ages & finally got round to registering to tell everyone that it can work to reclaim your charges!!

I had this with Halifax as well.

I signed their acceptance form and it said I would receive the money in my account in 7-10 days. 2 weeks later I chased them up on the telephone and they said it was in a pile to be done - could takes ages.

I complained that it was my money and they did it straight away. I checked my bank the next day and they had credited the money in my account but it was almost another 2 weeks before I got a letter confirming the claim was settled etc.
  • Bank: Halifax
    Amount Reclaimed: £622.36 (£250 charges & £372.36 interest)
    Amount they paid: £254

I was quite happy to accept the £254 as I was only chancing my arm with the interest charges!!! ;)
However this was for an account that has been closed since 2000 so I was pleased they even considered it. I think the whole process took about 3 weeks.

I'm now in the process of reclaiming £443 on my current account! :o

    Bank: Llyods
    Amount Reclaimed: £35
    Amount they paid: £70!

This one amused me. Lloyds charged me £35 in September 06 for a failed standing order. They were quite adamant they would not pay after three letters. I let the matter slip over Christmas but wrote to them again in February threatening to take the matter to court. I received a cheque (which I thought odd) for £35 several days later. Unbeknownst to me they had closed the account in November without informing me, with a balance of -£35, effectively cancelling the debt then. I have now cashed the cheque and am £35 up!
