    Story;

Started the process on January 17th 2007. Didnt have to ask for a list of charges as i keep all my statements. So sent off the first letter with copies of my statements. Heard nothing, so on 23rd February I sent off the second letter threatening court action plus costs, etc. On 3rd march received a letter from the bank thanking me for my claim and that it was being 'considered'. Immediately sent off a 3rd letter stating that they had until the 19th March to settle this, or I was going to court, plus 8%, plus expenses, loss of earnings, etc. On 17th March, I got a reply. Absolutely terrified, I opened the letter and it was full of jargon about how the bank feels these charges are fair and that i shouldnt be entitled to anything back as I signed a contract, etc etc..........last word on the first page was 'However, turned over the page and the settlement figure was there.

    I WAS OVER THE MOON!!!!!

So on Tuesday 20th March I sent away the acceptance letter to agree the settlement. Im still waiting for my money to be put into my account. I am giving them until Monday 16th April and if its still not in, I will be straight on the phone! In fairness to the bank, I had 8 weeks to accept their offer, so they will probably wait until then before sticking the money into my account.

Thanks martinsmoneytips, couldnt of done it without you!!!!!!

  • :j Hi everyone
want to share my good news that Nat West have made an offer of £7259.00 after filing allocation questionaire, we have accepted although it doesnt include the interest but we need the money to clear our bills. Im really pleased its been a bit stressful waiting for them to do things at their pace and i kept thinking that I would be the one that they made an example of and take all the way to court but its finally all over and I'm now gonna do the same for my son! Thanks to everyone who has patiently answered my questions and a big thank you to Martin X I've said it before and I'll say it again you're a saint:A Good luck to evryone still chasing their money just remember its your money dont back down! and congratulations to everyone who beat the banks by being determined and sticking with it through all their delaying and bullying tactics well done!:T Just one last thing does anyone know how I make a donation to this or any other site that helps people BEAT THE BANKS! Bank - HSBC
    Amount Claimed £1953 plus £609.74 interest (£2562.74)
    Amount they will pay £1583

The process was dragging on - I offered to accept the amount minus interest - I figure £400 is not too bad to lose - it's still £1583 I didn't have! Just waiting for my letter to accept this!
    Gimme back my bank charges!!!!!

First we wrote letter asking for them to refund the amount, no reply for ages, then they wrote telling us to take it up with FSA, so we went to money claim online, 6 days later halifax offered us £1400 we turned this down, what did we have to loose? £120 court fees!! so we waited, a week later halifax settled in full, deep joy one over the establishment. thank you Martin :T

I have today received a cheque from RBS from my closed bank account for £901.72 (which includes a £80 court fee). The bank account was closed 2 years ago and despite sending letters 1 and 2 and the offering of a partial refund of £311 I decided to proceed with my court case.

Now today the cheque has arrived !!!! huge thanks to Martin who with his help, advice and Edinburghlasses too has given me the confidence to take it this far.

Now I have £901.72 that I did not expect, thank you thank you thank you

    Bank Lloyds TSB
    Amount £12
    Amount paid £12

This was a late payment fee from Dec. They didn't even have to send me a letter, I knew it would be late when I realised I had forgotten to pay it (£5!!) and they slapped it on, I was only late by a day. I called and asked them to refund and they said no, so I sent them a letter telling them how disappointed I was, have had this card for years, loyal customer etc etc and I noticed the other day they have refunded it. Good job as well.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

  • Halifax

    Owed - £6,732.76

    Paid - £6,732.76 + £250 Court Fees!!!

Halifax let the situation go on until the latter stages of court proceedings but gave in 2 days before default and paid a couple of days after that!

They did offer a paltry £3,250 half way through this saga which was turned down in an instant and because of their cheek we took them to court!!

It was really worth spending the £250 to take them to court because they will always give in.

The whole thing took about 3 months but was totally worth the wait!!!! :T :j

Martin Lewis you are a genius! Without all your help, templates and encouragement and advice from the forums and site we would never have done this - we will raise a glass to you on our Caribbean holiday!! :money: :rotfl:
