Bank: Natwest Bank
Amount claimed £1958 + £337 interest
Amount offered and accepted £1958
Wrote 1 letter on 1st March and received the offer 5th May. Natwest say that if we are not prepared to accept future charges they'll have to consider asking us to take our overdraft elsewhere. Will try to avoid future charges! Very relieved that the bank didn't put up more of a fight. :T0 -

Bank: NatWest

Bank: NatWest
Amount Reclaimed: £565.00
Amount they paid: £565.00
The story: I had several charges from the NatWest, and the last ones were as a result of going £12 overdrawn. The usual charges entailed and just spiralled out of control. I did what I shouldn't have done, buried my head in the sand, and didn't inform them of my change of address. I live in rented property so sometimes I move house year after year, but the Collection Agency finally caught up with me and I had to pay what was outstanding. This was 2 years ago, so I was over the moon to find out I could reclaim all that money back. I sent for my statements, no reply; sent again, and finally got them; then first letter, 14 days and no reply; 7 day letter, no reply. At this point I was worried, because the Scottish system is more complicated than the English system, or so I thought, until I heard about going through the F.O.S. I had only sent away my claim forms to them on Tuesday, and this morning, I received the full offer from the NatWest and the standard form to sign.
I want to thank this site, and all the wonderful MSEers, as I wouldn't have been able to do it without you!
Lets hope Capital One pays up too!0 -
Bank: NatWest
Amount claimed: £1186 + £303 interest
Amountthey paid:£1186
Story:
sent letters up to & including the LBA. today recieved a letter from Natwest offering the full amount of charges.
I`ve accepted these as they relate to a closed account that went to a debt collection agency who wanted £900. I settled with them for £600 and the account was closed.
This was over 2 years ago and to be offered just shy of £1200 is an excellent result.
1 down, 5 to go.
as always thanks to the guys & girls on this site for advise & support.0 -
Bank: Abbey
Amount claimed: £3553.50 plus court costs plus interest (end Jan)
Amount offered by Abbey to settle: £3000.00 (today). Accepted.
Story: Single mum on low and irregular income - incurred costs due to late payment of ex husband's maintenance/benefits. Months ago (I can't remember when) I started with the first letter, and they fobbed me off. Encouraged by this thread I pursued matters. It took them a while to send me all the bank statements (I only had three years' worth), and I finally sent them the 14 day letter in February. They didn't reply so I took them to court. They defended the claim within the 14 days. Then, they offered me £1776.75 on 19th March, saying that I couldn't expect to pay NO charges at all. I sent counter offer on 23rd March offering to pay £2 per charge and drop the interest, but then, as Allocation Questionnaire had to be in by 8th April, I called the number on their letter yesterday to say I haven't heard back from you and I'm off to court.
The chap couldn't speak to me yesterday but called me tonight (at 7pm, the night before a long weekend!) and after discussion he said they could offer me £3000. I accepted. I offered to close my account but it wasn't a condition of the offer. He said he would send the cheque to my account tonight and it would take 5 or 6 working days to clear. I will have to sign their offer letter, which is in the post to me, and then when the money clears I have to write to court to say we've settled. He was actually very pleasant, albeit sounding a little battle-weary!
Thank you for all your encouragement. I will now be able to pay off my overdraft with them (incurred mainly due to said charges!) and start afresh with the new account I opened in January at another bank.
Just remember: you can do it! And by the way, when you take the bank to court online you pay up to £120 in costs, but then when the allocation questionnaire is sent to you to get the hearing moved to your local court, you have to pay AGAIN, a further £100 if your claim is over £1500 I think. This is unavoidable. Maybe it would be best to phone and negotiate over the phone asap so you don't incur the further costs...0 -
Bank: Alliance & Lecister
Amount Reclaimed: £50.00
Amount they paid: £50.00
The story: I went slightly overdrawn for the first time ever on my bank account. I charged £25 for going overdrawn and £25 for the direct debit, total £50.00. I telephoned customer service and complained and the bank paid back £25.00 to my bank account. Unhappy with the remaining £25.00 I decided to write to the bank, using the first letter template. recieved a response this morning, informing me the bank would repay the other £25.00 as a "good will gesture" and urged me to look at the T&C. The letters actually work, wonderful, thank :T you Martin/MSETrinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -
Bank Alliance and Leicesterl
Amount Claimed £171.00
Amount Received £171.00 plus court fee
Story: The bank paid up after Small Claim was issued so no need to go to Court. They are now closing the account, but wished to stress that paying up is not a "sign of weakness on our part".....0
