Reclaimed Bank Charges SUCCESS stories

Amount Claimed: £58.00
Amount Refunded: £58.00 (plus the £30.00 court charges as done through money claim after inital letters didn't work)
Although the amount I claimed was only small, it was actually the 2nd amount I've claimed from Natwest, the first being for just under £300. Both times they gave me the usual c**p about if you keep requesting your money back then we'll have to consider whether we can keep providing you with banking services or only provide you with a basic bank act ie one with no debit card or o/d. What made me laugh the most was when I wrote my original letter, asking them to tell me how much it actually costs to process a cheque when you go over your overdraft limit (that's what £30.00 of my charges were for) they refused point blank to tell me as apparantly they don't have to justify their charges. More like they know they charge too much!!0 -

Bank: Lloyds TSB
Amount Reclaimed: £400.00 (excluding interest)
Amount they paid: £452.90
The story:
Started the claim in January. Raised a court case and sent in my Allocation Questionnaire on Friday 23rd March. They credited my account the same day !
Thankyou - I now have a £1500 claim against Lloyds for another account that I am jsut about to raise a Court case for.0 -
Bank: LloydsTSB
Amount claimed: £1738.65 (including £220 court fees and about £380 interest)
Amount they paid: £1738.65
Story: Point blank refused to refund charges on my initial letter. Ignored my second threatening to take them to court. Filled out online county court claim (£120 fee), received response via court from their solicitor (in Brighton), had case transferred from Northampton County Court to local (Shrewsbury, further £100 fee), received letter from solicitor saying they were paying up with no admission of liability, received cheque, received judgement that I should confirm to court that money had been received.
Pure brinkmanship!!
Don't be afraid, stick to your guns and take them for everything they've stolen from you.
Thanks very much to Martin and everyone else who has posted advice.0 -

Sent first letter 6th March (luckily i'd kept most of my statements), phoned to chase on 19th but that felt like a waste of time as they just told me i'd have to wait til mid april though there was 'a letter on the system' - 2nd letter around 24th March, today received letter in post, saying they do not admit liabilitybut on this occasion will pay the full amount.:D They did threaten they might in the future have to switch my account to a basic bank account if i refused to accept their charges again, but that doesn't bother me really, as now i've got out of the mire, i don't intend on using their overpriced borrowing facilities in the future anyway.
things i think helped:
i addressed the letters to my branch and delivered them in person so there could be no arguments about receipt.
i claimed the statutory interest as well, using the calculator on here, as an extra bargaining chip
this site, for letter templates and the encouragement - would have chickened out otherwise:T
dchurch who i think kicked the whole movement off - deserves a knighthood
Wah-hay - couldn't wait to get on here and share this!!!
Thanks everybody who's posted their stories on here - stick with it!"The Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed" - Ghandi0 -

Bank: Capital One
Amount Reclaimed: £439.00(including interest & court costs)
Amount they paid: £439.00
The story:
I claimed for my OH. His Cap 1 had until Tues 3rd April to defend claim. Yesterday got letter saying there charges were fair, blah, blah, blah but as a gesture of goodwill & so as not to waste the courts time they were settling in full. Wasting the courts time, HA, if they'd have coughed up in the first place i wouldn't have had to put a claim into the court.
So thats now-
Halifax - £2200
Natwest - £386.00
Birmingham Midshires - £1012.00
Cap1(OH's) - £439.00
Just waiting for 2nd Hal account statements & have just filed a court claim for my cap1, then its onto claiming for my sister. On the strength of the successful ones i have just paid for a well deseved holiday so i'll be raising a glass or two to the above institutions in June.0 -
Bank: Halifax:j :j :j
Amount reclaimed:£955 + £80 court fee
Amount they paid £995 + £80 court fee
1st letter sent december 2006
2nd letter sent febuary 20th 2007
Court proceedings M.C.O.L. 6th March : claim was acknowledged with intent to defend .March 29th Just before next step money was payed back into account a day later a letter saying that
'on a purely commercial basis, it will cost Halifax money to defend your claims in terms of the legal costs that will be incurred. It is unlikely that Halifax will be able to recover these costs (even if the bank wins) because your claim will probably be allocated to the small
claims track, in which costs are not generally awarded.
For this reason, but without admission of liability, Halifax is willing to reimburse charges incurred. Now I will be doing the whole thing again for recent charges. :rotfl:0 -
Just recieved £770 from barclays after a very easy claim.
I claimed £1035 but was happy with the £770.
Would encourage anyone to do it and have just started claims against Mint and Barclaycard so fingers crossed.
