  • Hello Martin and Everyone,

Took the tentative steps to reclaim my Bank Charges and Mortgage exit
Fees via Martins letters and to my surprise and relief it worked.

Two lots of Mortgage exit fees Halifax £55.00 Northern Rock only £35.00
thought I might have got more there as exit fee was £195.00 they said in
2001 the figure would have been £160.00 you have to believe them.

My Bank Charges totalled £961.00 with First Direct plus they added some
more on another £77.00 offered me £750.00 so I have accepted. Martin
says if around 20% less to take the offer or you could carry on and fight
to the bitter end. I wanted to keep my account with them so I didn't want
to rock the boat too much.

So all in all I am very pleased. Thanks Martin.

Going to look through my old credit card statements and have a go there
now. I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to receipts and statements,
so I have a few years worth, Worth having a go.

Is it a bit harder trying to get your charges back from credit cards?

    Any advice would be grateful.

    Thanks

Settled in full 13 days before court date had previously offered £182.00 but I refused the offer and proceeded with issuing a claim numerous fob off letters along the way but worth sticking it out - Thanks for your easy to follow guidelines :)

    Amount Reclaimed: £1032

    Amount they paid: £952

The story: I followed all you advice regarding letters etc sent the first delivered by hand to my branch, met with the branch manager for the first time, " It will take a very long time to sort out as there are so many claims from YOU PEOPLE!!!" Well that made sure I followed through.

Had the first holding letter, We are looking into this we have 8 weeks! They then sent a letter addressed to my wife (she didn't make the claim and had only been on the account for 7 days!) saying the same but did give us a date on end of april. Then had a letter for somebody else!! called to ask why and check that no account details had been sent to them (normal holding letter though!) advised that court was due in 3 weeks........ OH

I then received a letter 2 days later out lining that they were not liable but were going to pay back £952 as the rest was an error on my part it was!!! so once again thanks and keep up the good work.

Thank you Martin, yet again brilliant advise from you. Did first template letter, bank replied within days stating they did not want the £10 (and returned the cheque) After receiving statements we sent second template letter. Again within days they wrote back saying they would make a one of payment although they were not accepting our claim, they said it would cost them more in legal fees. So after much debate..... doh! We accepted and once again within a few days money was in the bank.

Martin you are a STAR ******

I started my claim back in December, sent the 2 letters, filed MCOL. HSBC defended, completed AQ. DG Solicitors sent a letter asking for a breakdown of charges, sent that to them. 27th March received full offer minus 1 charge which was 3 days over 6 years! Sent acceptance back, and checked my account 5 minutes ago and the money is in my account!!

Thank you Martin and big thanks to Edinburugh Glass!

    Hi There

I got the eight week complaint letter from Barclays, followed this up last week (two weeks after their letter) saying that I did not accept their proposed resolution, and would be taking them to small claims court.

This morning I received a letter saying they would offer me a goodwill payment of £470. I asked for £630 (without interest), so I am going to accept this.

That's £160 difference, and considering this is money I had considered lost forever, anything is a bonus, and in this case, I believe this to be a major victory!

    Keep going at it, folks!

Now I'm just waiting for Barclaycard to reply to my threat of court action.

Asked for charges under data protection on 9th Jan.
    Received Statements on 19th Feb.
Next day used BBC`s letter demanding bank charges back giving 14days otherwise would take them to court.
Received letter back saying that they are given 8 weeks to deal with any complaint etc.
8th March gave them a call to say I would be starting legal proceedings on the 9th per my original letter, offered to sort it out over the phone. They declined.
    9th March – Started MCOL
21st March – Halifax acknowledged MCOL said they intended to defend.
22nd March – Call off Halifax offering £1000 as goodwill gesture, told them no chance. Went up to £2000 in minutes stood my ground. Finally offered £2198 + Court fee.
    27th March – Signed acceptance.
    2nd April withdrew MCOL.
3rd April received letter saying are paying interest of £224.18 within 5 days as well even after accepting the £2198, and could we contact the court to say the case was settled.
The money is in the bank!!!

Got as far as a court date and the day before the papers had to be at the court they wrote with a settlement figure. Slightly wrong so asked then to revise it and they did.
