HSBC
Claimed 3,371.00
Awarded 2850.00
HSBC most unhelpful sending letters to wrong address and predating time limited offer by 7 days so nearly out of time to accept. Very sharp practice but we got there in the end thanks to you Martin0 -
Bank: Halifax
Amount claimed: £968
Amount received: £968
The story: My biggest hurdle was getting the statements in the first place. My first two requests were ignored, then a phonecall and £5 payment didn't seem to be getting any results either so I phoned again and got angry and within the week I had 2 lots of statements for 2 accounts!
After sending first letter asking for money back I received the standard letter stating it could take up to 8 weeks to look at my complaint. Then today I received a letter from the bank (1 month after I sent the 1st letter) offering the full amount paid back. They say the money will be in my account within 14 days.
I have just sent off another letter for a second account with them which amounts to £1,400. I'm worried that by accepting this offer they can refuse a futher claim, but hey at least I got something!
Thanks to all the MSE'ers whos success stories encouraged me to persue my claim- I would never have done it without you!0 -

Bank: First Direct
Amount Reclaimed: 5250 (in intrest)
Amount they paid: 3500
The story:
asked for the 5250 on the 28th Feb 2007, they sent back their standad letter saying that the charges are lawful but as good will gesture they'll give me 2260. i worte back saying this was not satisfactory and would be going to court unless they offered a more satisfactory amount. they wrote back saying they will offer 3500 as a good will gesture (still not saying they did anything wrong!) and i accepted. money in my account this morning - 30th march!!! full thing start to finish 1 month 2 days! pays for maternity leave! yipeeeee:dance:0 -

Asked for statements before Xmas. Received statements end Feb.
1st letter sent 1 March claiming £3344 & interest.
2nd letter sent 15 March. Time up yesterday.
Rang today to give them opportunity to settle before I submitted my court claim, said they hadn't received my letter of 15th!
Came home today to letter offering £1500. Rang back to say no thanks and eventually negotiated £3300. Waiting for their letter....

I encouraged my son to apply for refund of bank charges from First Direct. Luckily he could work out how much he had paid from previous bank statements online. I was amazed that in 5 years he had paid £1150.00!! He sent the letter with a copy of the charges which included interest and yesterday he received an offer letter of £950.00 needless to say he is accepting. This has only taken 3 weeks to sort out.0
