amount claimed £3028 (including £120 small claims courts)
    amount paid £2800

Took about 8 weeks from start to finish had to go to MCOL they acknowledged after about week a few days later received letter offering £2444 i phoned them up and declined the offer and said i would accept £2800 next day phoned me back and gave me £2800. I would say worth not accepting first offer and push for it they know they havent got a leg to stand on. Thanks Martin i'm over the moon.

  • Thank you so much. It has taken a while but got there in the end. My message to everyone is don't give in.........1st letter to Halifax asked for £2563.00 they offered £1842. I refused this and asked for full amount had no response so starting proceedings through Money Claim Online but this time asked for interest too a total of £3315.52. Had a letter from the court saying the Halifax were defending all of the claim, must admit I did panic then... However, today I have had a letter offering me the full amount and the court costs of £120. They say it will be in my bank account within 5 days and nothing to sign. I am well pleased I have not worked for over 1 year due to illness and this money has helped me so much and I could not have done it without this website..........:money:  :j

Story: I asked for the amount including interest, and after a long while (about a month, they must have loads of people working on reclaiming charges at the moment!), they offered just the original amount. I snatched it off them. Note: give them as much info as possible up front. I just sent a letter with a summary of charges first, and later they asked for copies of my statements at the time. When they got onto my case though, they were pdq.

The letter with the offer is funny... They say that they are positive they would win in a court battle howeverthey don't really want the hassle and expense!

Excellent result for me! Thanks for the tips Martin!:T
  • I wrote to Barclays asking for Baznk charges of £5500.00 including interest to be repaid. I already had all my bank statements because I keep all mine. I received a letter back within 2 weeks that read sorry to hear I had a complaint, but that they would look into it and get back to me by 19th March. !9th March was a Monday, but I would consider myself a reasonable person so decided to give it to the end of the week before I sent the second template letter. However on the Wednesday I received a letter offering me £3240.00 in full and final settlement.

I decided that for the sake of worrying about what would happen and that I had only written 1 letter that I was more than happy with that result. They have not closed my account either so thats a bonus. I have sent back the form confirming my acceptance and am now waiting for my money to be deposited into my bank account.

The bank were only ever polite and dealt with my complaint quickly and efficiently in my opinion.

Thank you so much for bringing this to the publics attention, it has been a very much needed windfall.

    Bank: Halifax
    Amount Claimed : £1001.59 + £120 Court Fee
    Amount Awarded : £1121.59

To say I was a little sceptical at the outset is an understatement!

I followed Martin's guide to the letter and got as far as paying my £120 to take the Halifax to Court.

Mind you - during this claim procedure I got some heavyweight letters from the Halifax legal department but , undeterred I went on boldly [blindly?].

This morning the Halifax , after previously informing the Court that they would be defending the claim "in full", sent me a letter from which I quote :

".....without admission of liability , Halifax is willing to reimburse £1001.59 in respect of the bank charges and interest as detailed in your claim. The Halifax will also reimburse £120 in respect of the Court fee. This amounts to £1121.59 which will be sent to you by cheque within the next 5 working days."

Many, many thanks to Martin and those persons who helped and advised me along the way.

    From: Lloyds TSB

Lloyds took it almost to the wire. I completed the court allocations questionnaire and took it in on Friday. I checked my account this morning to find that yesterday I had been accredited with £1,572 from LLoyds TSB. Can't wait to read what nonsense they will tell me in their letter. Thanks to Martin and contributors to this forum. I couldn't have done it without your support.

    Claimed: £89
    Received: £89
    From MINT CREDIT CARD

I know its not a huge amount but i am so pleased i chased it. It was actually for £80 but i decided to chase the interest too. Sent one letter (form the template) and had a cheque within 3 weeks (they sent me two letters during that time letting me know that they were dealing with the request and werent neglecting me!) Thought it was a great service.

Not only that they doubled my borrowing limit! (not that im using the card any more)

As if anyone would have any doubts after 99 (!) pages of success stories but i couldnt advice more strongly chasing your money, no matter how small.

Went on HSBC internet banking, made note of charges sent first letter (letter on this website) and list of charges dates and cost etc, then got initial reply we are dealing with your request etc etc, then got 2nd reply last week stating they would get back to me by 17/04/2007, today received letter stating would pay £770 which i am very very happy about. Thank you so much and keep going everyone. I know i could have sent the 2nd letter of, but didn't want to issue court proceedings so again good result.
