BANK: Natwest
Amount Claimed: £38.00
Amount Received: £38.00
Story: My partner was due to have 2 x £5.00 standing orders taken from his bank account, we are both struggling on Job seekers at the moment hopefully temporarlly! I transfered the £10.00 over to my partners account from my account to cover the standing orders (I am also with nawest) the transfer was immediate. Initially yesterday it showed on the online banking both standing orders had been paid. However up on my parner checking his online banking this morning he discovered the updated screen showed only one had been paid and a charge of £38.00 had been applied to his account for the other that hadn't!
OK phone call time to Natwest: First lady on the phone couldn't understand my partners frustration and passed him over to a politely spoken gentleman who explained that my transfer of money had not hit his account untill after 3.30pm yesterday thus resulting in the £38.00 charge....at this point I took the phone! I explained to the gentleman that I had made the instant transfer yesterday morning and if he were to check my account he would see this was so. He went on to explain that the £5.00 that had been allowed to go out shouldn't have been and it was very unusual so as he had already explained to my partner "I am prepared as a goodwill gesture to refund half of the £38.00 to your partners account".....I think not!!! I calmly explained to the chap that I felt the charge was extortionate foe a £5.00 standing order and for a family on Jobseekers it would not be possiable to repay the amount this week. I also explained that I had recently reclaimed all my bank charges from barclays bank totalling £830 (slight misuse of the truth as I am in the process, but what the heck) and that I was more than willing to start the ball rolling through the courts to reclaim my partners £38.00 and as a goodwill gesture I believed that Natwest should refund the full £38.00......silence on the other end of the phone, followed by puffing and panting...."OK came the reply I am prepared on this one occasion to refund your partners account with the £38.00", my reply "Thank you very much your help is much appreciated"
So all in all a good quick success story, not a huge amount but satisfactory all the same, hoping Barclays claim has the same outcome.

Barclays
Claimed £1060
Offered £795
After sending my first demand for my money back, just over £1000, I received a letter back stating that they would contact me by 21st March, which came and went, gave them a few more days and so yesterday sorted out the second letter which I haven't posted yet. Lo and behold I get a letter this morning offering £795 which I will accept.
Thanks to everyone for their advice.

i was claiming only £150, but their response to my 1st letter requesting the full amount back was to send me a letter saying their charges are fair and transparent...and as a goodwill gesture they will pay me back as long as i don't hold them legally responsible (if that isn't an admission of wrongdoing i don't know what is!!). but anyway, like i care! i'm rich! ok, im not, but i have extra beer vouchers. nice 1, couldnt have done it without this site either, cheers to everyone who helped out! :T
PS: totally surprised at this because all my charges were £10.00 each and it's so close to the OFT announcement...hope this gives others the confidence to go for it in these confusing times! :-P0 -

Thank you so much Martin. :money:0 -
Well, I have claimed £2918.00 in total from Nationwide. It wasn't the easiest. They made me waiit until the last week before going to court, but I have been paid in full into my bank account.
I did have doubts that this process would work but patience won through!! If anyone is even just thinking about doing it, JUST DO IT!!!! It only takes a few letters and is well worth it.
Thank you Martin!!!!:money: :money: :money: :money:0
